Location and Transport
Juan Santamaría International Airport is located in Alajuela, which is 12 miles (20 kilometres) to the west of San José. A taxi will cost about CRC 19,500 (USD 34) and take about 20 minutes. There are buses that run from the airport to all over Costa Rica, and there are connections between the terminal and the city centre that run every five minutes, from around 04:00 until 19:00.
Nearby Hotels and Airport Facilities
You’ll find hotels within easy reach of the airport – within a mile (less than 2 kilometres) – and lots offering shuttle services to and from the terminal. Inside Juan Santamaría International Airport, there are useful facilities like free WiFi, ATMs and currency exchange. You can also pick up locally crafted mementos in the shops, or sip on some delicious Costa Rican coffee in one of the airport cafés. If you’ve a little more time before heading to the gate, you can unwind in one of two mini-spas.
