Offering inner courtyard views, A Casa di Lucia is an accommodation set in Pisa, 4.5 km from Leaning Tower of Pisa and 4.9 km from Pisa Cathedral. Lucia is super supportive - she helped us with everything and especially the laye check-in. The facility is not a luxurious one, but it has everything needed for a night or two. It's very close to the airport -6-7 min walking distance. What's more - at the room we were provided with a coffee machine, some snacks and milk for breakfast - given the fact that it wasn't included such in the price of the room. Towels, hair dryer, everything was well equipped. Walking distance to the railway station - 30 min. So, I strongly recommend it.
Valentina was a great host. She welcomed us and showed everything we know. She offered pushbikes for us to use which was a nice surprise. At our check out, she gave us lift to bus stop which was so helpful cz its about 15mins walk and our bags was heavy and was too hot to walk. She may needed to go in town anyway but she waited for us which was kind. Definitely recommend this place to stay if you want to be a little out of town.
A lovely city and so compact you can walk everywhere. Highlights were a walk on the city walls that takes you around Pisa where you get a very different view point. Plus it’s less crowded. About 3.5kms which ends near the river, then an 20 minute walk back. But you can meander, have a coffee or an gelato on your way. And of course, the leaning tower that is so famous! I would recommend getting a combined ticket to see the tower, the cathedral, the Baptistry and the camposanto etc Amazing architecture and artwork. There are so many restaurants for your aperativos and meals that you are spoilt for choice. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
We used an app called GPSmycity to do an introductory walk and saw quite a few places in which there were few tourists as well as some where they were all packed in. Sadly, we only had enough time to take a quick look at anywhere. On our walk back to the station to fly home, we also came across a large wine and food tasting festival that we hadn't been aware of. Note to self - check what's on before we go, next time.
Compact and Interesting The Churches and Architecture are Superb There were markets running whilst there good selection goods, foods and wine If you want to see all buildings associated with the Leaning Tower better to forward book an access ticket The Tower is a good 20 to 30 minutes walk from town centre A tourist map is a definite help There are various tours offered did not taker them up as prefer to explore on my own, but other people seemed to enjoy them
Pisa is small. Most people go for the tower which is fabulous! However there is more to the town with the city walls etc. however it was also a convenient place to base ourselves form for visiting Lucca which is gorgeous and a fab with a fab park run around the city walls! Also for a day at the beach. If we’d had more time we would had made a trip to Florence too… next time! Trains are easy to get around. Food wise there are lots of places no need to eat on the tourist road near the tower ! All good food! Note pictures below are Pisa, Lucca and Viareggio
Avoid the tower in the morning as the tour groups swamp the cathedral piazza. Book a ticket for the late afternoon. Away from that though is a real Italian town, largely ignored by most of the visitors, with ancient buildings, some great museums and all kinds of high class food and drink. The locals are welcoming, and most businesses are fluent in English.
