This place is so wonderful that you just don‘t want to leave and want to enjoy every inch of it.
It is huge but every single detail is so well taken care of, that one doesn‘t stop being amazed how they maintain it so well. It lies right on Lake Victoria with its gorgeous views , so you enjoy cool breeze most of the time and have friendly staff members that do their job flawlessly. You have a huge infinity pool that looks over the lake and it is really cold so be prepared to get a bit chilly))) No words about the rooms, the villas are just perfect, it cannot get more comfortable than that, with a huge bathroom with hygene articles that you didn‘t even think you might need, super clean shower with good water pressure and plus a bathtub. In the room itself you will find your enormous bed and a tasteful couch/armchair that invite you to chill the whole time, a big wardrobe where you can unpack 3-4 suitcases and a beautiful dressing table of a retro style which is definitely a gift for women especially. As if this all is not enough, you have also a balcony - again with comfy chairs where you can enjoy the singing of various kinds of birds, listening the water sounds from the small waterfall and enjoy the beauty of mysterious Victoria.
We would really really love to go back to this Garden of Eden one day. By the way, ‚malaika‘ means ‚ angels‘; I guess it is really angels that take you there because you get a heavenly rest.

TV wasn't working and AC remote had some issues but apart from that the food for breakfast was good, value for money was great and I had issues about vacating the room one day earlier than booked. Hotel staff were very understanding and helpful in adjusting room charges because of that. Great place to stay if you are on a trip to mwanaza.

Gold Crest hotel is an excellent establishment in Mwanza. It is located right in the heart of Mwanza which is very convenient for tourists from other countries as there is excellent access to a number of different banks to obtain cash for the days activities. In our case we arrived with a low cash reserve and needed to withdraw cash daily from Travel cards. This was a concern at first but as there are numerous large banks very near to the Gold Crest we were able to find one that could accept our Australian travel cards and make the necessary withdrawals. The Mwanza town centre is quite safe for tourists and we experienced no problems in walking in the town area both for shopping at stores and local markets and to do our banking. The people of Mwanza are friendly and trustworthy and everywhere we went we received a warm welcome and excellent service.
Staff at the Gold Crest are very helpful and friendly - with a strong desire to provide great service. The breakfast provided with our room was very good - with wide range of items and the location is tops, as you can sit on the balcony overlooking the street to eat, or indoors at very comfortable places with table service - which ever you prefer. The Gold Crest restaurant has food options to a very high standard - we felt that the meals we ate were the equal of any we had on our extended tour of Europe and Africa. Really high standard for presentation and quality (delicious) and large very adequate portion sizes. We found that one meal between two was often sufficient and the pricing was very good making the meals in the hotel a very nice high standard value for money experience in a very comfortable atmosphere.
Room Service was good and the rooms are cleaned everyday and the hotel also has an excellent value laundry service which we used several times - very convenient.
When it came time to pay we were able to pay with credit card which is not always a certainty in Africa.
Many thanks to the Gold Crest hotel.

Nice port town on Lake Victoria, with amazing rock formations throughout the area. The climate is very nice compared to hot, humid cities on the Indian Ocean. Entering the Serengeti from the Mwanza side means much fewer jeeps and tourists, and more animals!

I liked Mwanza for the location and the ease of getting around. Once you learn the color coding of the buses (beat up minivans) you can get around easily and inexpensively. Though expect to be crowded. Also, there are always Pikipikis (Motorcyles) and Bajajis (3 Wheeled Vehicles) available. Plus regular taxis.
It is easy to connect and make friends with the local community.
It is generally safe as other cities.

Mwanza is a very busy and safe city with loads of markets and close proximity to the Serengeti - tours are available for the day or two days taking in Ngorongoro Crater. Our 1 days safari was great with an early start and we saw all the animals we expected to see (plus more) at close quarters - with a well trained guide and very modern well equipped special purpose 4WD (Forte Tours). Check the pricing though as you will need to pay quite a bit if a foreign tourist (fair enough as this maintains the park). There is no issue with crime and we felt safe at all times during the day in Mwanza. But we did not go out at night. Truly a great place to visit to experience genuine African life and tourist sights. The Air Tanzania flight from Dar es Salaam is very good with modern aircraft and very professional staff - if the weather is clear you will see Kilamanjaro (at a distance) on the way in daylight hours.
