Better known in its abbreviated form of ‘JFK’, John F. Kennedy International Airport sits just under 20 miles (30 kilometres) from Manhattan. To reach the city, hop on a JFK AirTrain; there are three lines which stop at every terminal and various rail and metro stations around the city. The MTA NYC Bus is the cheapest way into Manhattan, but also the slowest. Catch one from Terminal 5 and expect a journey time of around 50 minutes.
Plenty of hotels and motels are dotted around the outskirts of JFK, and many offer courtesy shuttles to and from the airport. If you’re feeling hungry then the airport’s food court provides a wide variety of tasty options.
The airport’s eight terminals are quite spread out, but the free AirTrain shuttle makes it easy to travel from one to the other. Just remember that the service is only free when travelling between terminals. Passengers with connecting flights may be required to pass through immigration – a passport, visa or ESTA may be necessary.
