Game viewing starts immediately – elephants, giraffes, and antelope welcome you before you’ve even unpacked your bags. What truly sets Amava apart, though, is the people. Cathleen, Euchan, Godfrey, Geshom, Aaron, Sandiso, Elaine, Louie, Tanya, and Quintin make you feel like part of the family from the very first day. Their warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail create an atmosphere of both comfort and refined elegance. The location and facilities are outstanding – the safari tents are the very definition of luxury, blending seamlessly into the wilderness while offering every modern comfort. At night, falling asleep to the sounds of lions, elephants and hippos just outside the camp is an experience I’ll never forget. Every meal was a highlight in itself – the food is on par with a Michelin-star restaurant, beautifully prepared and presented. And the guiding? Exceptional. The knowledge and passion of the guides and trackers elevate each game drive into something truly special. A must-do is the walking tour with the legendary Graham Cooke. Spending time with him is nothing short of inspirational; his depth of knowledge and life stories are fascinating – you could easily spend hours just listening. Amava River Lodge manages to combine world-class safari experiences with the heart of a family-run lodge. It’s a rare and beautiful combination, and we left feeling deeply grateful and already planning our return. Out of all our stays through our South Africa trip, this was the best experience of them all! The staff was exceptional. We had the best time on our morning and afternoon game drives. Having breakfast near the river where Hippos were sleeping, or snacks at a waterhole with a huge elephant family. We made the best memories. As an addition they took fantastic care of us, gluten-free meals were no problem at all.

Excellent service from from Kristian and Jenni, they definitely went over and above to provide outstanding service, the food was beautiful and very tasty, the staff was very friendly and professional, always willing to help and the rooms were very neat. The bush walks, night fires camps and game drive were very fun and beautiful, it was a pleasure booking with them. In summary , it was a fun experience of a luxury camping. Definitely do it again

Our stay at Camp Bethel was great. The staff was soo friendly, the food was delicious and our tent was very nice. We would definitely come back again

Friendly staff and very welcoming. I appreciate the blanket and hot water bottle for the game drive during the cold months, the warm towel and drink after the game drive

Very well tended camp in the bush, close to Kruger and several other game reserves. Owner Bhili and staff are very friendly, lovely people. Lloyd cooks delicious breakfast and dinner and is a thoughtfull host. The camp is solar powered so there is no problem with load shedding. Dinner is served in a traditional boma with a fire in the middle. Bhili is a great storyteller and also a very experienced guide with extensive knowledge about animals, birds and plants. The gamedrives where spectacular! The beds are very comfortable, the tents and common areas are very clean and well maintained. Remember you are in the bush in the middle of nature, keep your tent closed or you may have roommates with four or more legs!

The Kapama game drives are probably the most memorable thing of my entire trip in South Africa. The staff is so lovely and knowledgable and they made so many variations for my food restrictions. The room was quiet, luxurious and so comfortable. I will be back again and again. We missed a day due to our flight being late by a whole day and not having the third day of our stay will always haunt me because it was an unforgettable stay

Very clean and comfortable. Hosts were great and always there to check up if we were ok or needed anything. Also it felt very safe being there. No need to worry about our stuff being stolen etc
