The castle walls on top of the hill are excellent to visit, but the experience is let down slightly by all the cars entering the castle grounds. The old town area is nice for a short visit, but not as extensive and "used" as other similar towns. Berat is know as village/ town of 1000 windows.
Berat is know as village/ town of 1000 windows. There are 2 area of the old town which are on both sides of the river. It worth just wandering the streets of both old towns. The view from the castle also gives a different perspective. A beautiful old town with so much character. The town had so much to see and was absolutely beautiful.
The town had so much to see and was absolutely beautiful. The Ottoman era area was preserved amazingly well, as were the other parts of the old city. There were nice stores. The old city juxtaposed well with the modern era shopping and walking street that ran along the canal and a park where the town residents were out gathering in the evening. Berat is a must see.
Berat is a must see. The people are super friendly and helpful. If you take the bus, find the bus stop to take it to the city centre. I walked 45 minutes from the bus station to the city centre. I wish someone told me I could take a bus ahead of time. When you leave, take the bus from the city centre. The castle is large and interesting and no charge .
The castle is large and interesting and no charge . Parking under ground in the town was 100 Lek/ Euro per hour and keeps the car cool . The friendly house restaurant has great views and good food . Two historic areas to wander through - very enjoyable.Guest review byDeniseAustralia

The hosts are a small family, who are all incredibly kind and positive people. The food at the restaurant was the best and (crazy enough) cheapest we had in Albania. The breakfast was also great with fruit, yoghurt, eggs, pastries, jams and very good coffee. The hotel is located inside Berat castle, which makes for an unreal location. It's a family run boutique hotel, newly opened, and is situated in the centre of idyllic Berat. Rooms and facilities are wonderful, especially the beautiful terrace overlooking the town. The hosts were just so gracious and lovely, delicious breakfast each morning and everything top notch.
