Lovely room, lovely breakfast, stunning location and Christian the owner was brilliant. We used the Gasthof Schontal as a base for travelling to and from Kitzbuhel for a days skiing and the Hahnenkahm races. A half hour drive takes you to Kirchberg in Tyrol where there is free parking and a free shuttle train which takes you into Kitzbuhel itself. Perfect

Beautiful scenery. Hiking trails for all skill levels. We stayed in Roggenboden, which is incredibly peaceful. A car is essential, though. The Austrian cuisine and hospitality are simply wonderful. We'll definitely be back.

A very well-maintained and clean place.

A very well-maintained and clean place. The restaurants are also highly recommended. There's a large recreation area for children, ideally located right in town. We ate at the snack bars around the valley, which we highly recommend. You can park your car in a parking lot and then continue on foot using a map. The trails open every day from 10 am to 7 pm. Next time we want to go back to Oberau, but we'll stay in different accommodation.

All the houses are decorated with beautiful flowers and meticulously maintained. There's a lovely church and a few shops. They have many activities and festivities. There's a beautiful swimming pool, and the Klunder Klamm is also highly recommended!

Oberau has a tourist bus service this summer that travels to...

Oberau has a tourist bus service this summer that travels to the remote valleys (guest card required). There's also a shuttle service (for a fee) to the gorge. Several restaurants are open, although some have fallen victim to the pandemic (?). All in all, it's a place that's still quite tranquil yet centrally located.

Oberau, Niederau, Auffach – all in the Wildschönau region – are very pretty little villages that aren't yet overrun with tourists. The area is perfect for hiking, with mountains and valleys offering plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Hopefully, it won't become a tourist magnet and will remain a small Tyrolean idyll.

Since we checked out early after just one night due to terrible luck with the hotel and moved to Auffach, we unfortunately can't say much about Oberau. However, it seems to be a very friendly little town with nice people.

The apartment was like new, well-equipped and very clean, and the host was welcoming and extremely helpful. It's also located in a peaceful area, with easy access to supermarket, hiking trails, and other activities (Drachental Family Park). We really appreciated having the Wildschönau card included with our stay, which gave us access to cable cars on nearby mountains and an open-air pool in the area, among other things. Highly-recommended for a stay with children.

The apartment was a real surprise for us, spacy, clean, modern, with a separate room with the table, small stove, where you can eat, read, play the games. Also what is good that there are many hooks to hang the clothes. Someone thought properly when reconstructing this apartment. The cook in the kitchen is Slovakian and cooks perfectly. All food was exceptionally good than in the traditional Austrian kitchen. Also the hotel has very nice relaxing sauna area.

All was very nice and good. Hotel is located in a very beautiful and quiet place. The hotel by itself not a new and you would not find anything fancy there but it has everything what you need to spend comfortably some time. Owners are very friendly and doing their best. I arrived there by the motorcycle and personal offered to me to park the motorcycle inside the garage overnight
