Cost and modern, artsy and practical, full of light and secluded. This one’s a gem, with own entrance, a marvelous modern kitchen and many old renovated wood elements. We loved the living - dining - kitchen room, where the sunrise shone a glowing red light through a round window, and the sunset’s glow was visible through three large window to the other side. The lighting is beautiful and cosy, there were vases, candles, a most unusual bathroom. The place is quiet, we heard birdsong, a frightened a dove nesting outside in the balcony whenever we left house. Beautiful and highly recommendable.

However, it’s clear that even the staff feels disappointed about welcoming guests under these circumstances. The hotel is a traditional small town hotel in the Kempen region. We were on a bike tour. While it is old fashioned (as some reviews have mentioned) the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and we received a warm welcome and hearty breakfast.

the whole place was wonderful. The historic Monastery buildings are beautiful, warm brick work and at grand scale. The gardens were splendid too, 3 m high clipped hornbeam. The Restaurant is i believe in the monastic refectory and is huge with timber ceiling and beams. High arched windows, leaded glasswork and tapestries give a very grand scene. My meal was excellent and measured up to the environment. I liked the modern study bed room i had for one person. this was in a new building on the site of lost original barns. The Nordic whiteness was softened by finely embossed lining paper. A coloured engraving on the wall gave a birds eye view of the extent of the original Monastery. All very excellent. By chance I found a working Windmill at Weelde. It is run by volunteers every Thursday evening and Sunday morning. It also has a beer club under the working grindstones ! This is of course a Belgium windmill.

Everything was excellent, beautifully decorated, and the bathroom was downstairs, accessible by elevator. It's a very quiet area, where you can enjoy varied views around Retie, and there's also plenty of forest. Despite the somewhat less-than-perfect weather, we had a wonderful time. We will definitely recommend this accommodation to friends and family.

Breakfast was good.the management very friendly,(the wifes English better than the Husband.)The biggest problem was finding somewhere to get an evening meal.(most restaurants are closed on a Monday in Belgium)I had to ride all the way back into Retie to find somewhere.
