Coming from NZ this is exactly how we imagined a small village guesthouse might be. It was wonderful and we loved the surroundings and the rooms. Very modern bathrooms and spotlessly clean. The attached restaurant was great and we enjoyed sitting outside drinking beer and wine. Perfect!

Andechs and Bavaria are worth a visit, whether you're a beer enthusiast or not. We spent a pleasant day at the monastery (and its inn). The brewery is located inside the monastery's hill, and guided tours are available (in English and German).

If you enjoy delicious grilled pork knuckle and beer, this is the place for you. The pork knuckle was the best I've ever eaten! The town itself doesn't offer much, but hiking and cycling are possible on the high-altitude trail. Otherwise, the Ammersee and three other small lakes are located in the valley. Public buses run to Herrsching and Lake Starnberg.

Andechs is very conveniently located between Lake Starnberg and Lake Ammersee. Munich can also be reached relatively quickly by car or train. The area has many inns serving traditional cuisine. Bus connections are good and frequent, making it easy to reach many destinations by public transport.

We had a wonderful stay in Andechs.

We had a wonderful stay in Andechs. The accommodation was very comfortable, the breakfast excellent, and the welcome at the house very warm. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would love to come back.

Everything was fine, and the Bavarian landscape was beautiful. The lakes are beautiful and very peaceful, even though our stay was in August. Unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy the bike rides; there's a significant lack of bike rental services, and many routes lack cycle paths. In any case, it was beautiful and relaxing, and Munich is a 45-minute train ride away.

The proximity to Lake Starnberg and Lake Ammersee, and...

The proximity to Lake Starnberg and Lake Ammersee, and Andechs Monastery, is fantastic. Day trips to Munich and the Alps are easily accessible. The hosts have great tips, including recommendations for good restaurants.

The location was perfect for our purpose: visiting the Abbey and brewery in Andechs. The amenities of Hotel Bernhardof were a superb unexpected bonus. Underground spacious parking, what's not to like! The room was, without a doubt, the most well designed, artistic and creative space we stayed in during our 2 week journey. Dinner at the hotel was creative and delightful while breakfast was simple & delicious. We met and engaged with many staff members and all of them went overboard to be pleasant and helpful.
