Everything was wonderful: the view from the window, breakfast, the food in the restaurant, the proximity to the river and the mountains. The bed was separated from the rest of the room and far from the bathroom, that is very nice. My husband had his birthday during the stay and the hotel congratulated him with a nice gift. The facility is located on the river bank, with a very good view from the room. The staff speaks English and is friendly. The room was clean and well equipped. We also included breakfast which was varied and delicious. The hotel also has a restaurant where you can have dinner. There is a parking lot right in front of the hotel where we left our car.

I did the circular walk to the Basti bridge and down through...

I did the circular walk to the Basti bridge and down through the rock formations ending in the fish restaurant, where I had the trout. My best meal of the holiday. I overnighted at the Hinterland hostel in Rathan. Very pleasant, but really it is an easy day trip on the S Bhan from Dresden, no need to plan an overnight stay, unless you are planning some serious hiking.

We hiked everyday while we were there. visited the Bastei bridge, comrig cave, and the artist path, we also drove to bas schandau and schmilka on the czeck border. all beautiful places to visit. we were hiking with 2 young kids, so we chose paths that were suitable for them, but there are hiking routes for everyone. Rathen is quite small, so very easy to get around, we had a car so could drive to other villages, not sure how public transportation works there. We mostly cooked and ate in the house, but there are a few restaurants in Rathen and a lot more in bad schandau, although I found it hard to find quality dining and not just the old tourist restairants. I think the one in schmilka is really good but it was closed when we got there.

This is the most touristy part of Saxon Switzerland, next to the Basteibrücke. However, the nature is incredible, and if you go for a hike around sunrise, you may be lucky to enjoy the area without too many people. Around lunchtime, the Basteibrücke was packed like a bus and one had to stay in line to take a selfie, even in the beginning of November. There aren't many restaurants and we haven't tried any, we were eating in our hotel. There's one tiny shop on the side of the river that is close to the Basteibrücke that works until 3pm and sells almost nothing, so it better to buy food in advance.

A charming little town.

A charming little town. It's accessible by train – if you stay overnight in Saxon Switzerland, you receive a tourist card and free buses, ferries, and trains. The town is located near the Bastei Bridge, so for those not hiking the trails of Saxon Switzerland but wanting to reach the Bastei Bridge by public transport, it's a good starting point.

The guesthouse has a fantastic location.

The guesthouse has a fantastic location. The rooms are small but perfectly formed, and everything is very clean. The bed is very comfortable – a good night's sleep is guaranteed. The bathroom is modern, and there are lovely views from the room. The owner is friendly. It's incredibly peaceful. Hiking trails start right from the guesthouse, and bicycles are available for rent on site.

Had everything. Fully stocked kitchen. Big living room. Reading nook with great views where you can listen to the rain and read. Comfortable beds. Large and new washer and dryer for hiking clothes. Outdoor picnic table in nice garden. Friendly and helpful hosts - who speak English if needed. Great location in the middle of Saxon Switzerland and the Malerweg. Rathen itself is definitely the most quaint of the towns on the Elbe. s-bahn just across the river. Nicest place I have stayed in 10 years of European travel.

Excellent location, with a beautiful view on the Elbe river and the Altrathen castle. Villa Rapunzel itself is a very interesting and beautiful building, having its own tower, where you can lock a naughty princess ;) The landlords are very, very nice and friendly, and able to provide a lot of information regarding Rathen and neighbouring tourist attractions (in German language). If one wants to really enjoy Rathen and neighbouring attractions, they should come to Kurort Rathen for at least two weeks!

I had a wonderful stay at the hostel in Kurort Rathen. It's a simple and friendly place, surrounded by magical, fairy-tale-like nature. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean, and the atmosphere was calm and pleasant. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and cozy stay close to nature!
