There were four of us just coming off the trail after four days and we got a small room together with two bunk beds. The staff were nice and we ate all of our meals there which were great. The showers and bathrooms were great. Everything was super clean and it was so worth the money.

Location is perfect for hiking the Picos. Scenery of the Picos is breathtaking from the rooms in front part of hotel. Very good restaurant at the hotel and the staff was great. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a great , quiet location in the mountains.

Incredible location looking out over the peaks and watching raptors circling. Perfect spot from which to walk the Ruta del Cates. Very well equipped kitchen with lots of nice touches.

This was our favourite hotel of our northern Spain trip. We had an amazing view of the picos from our room and balcony. There was nothing nicer than sitting out on the terrace after a long day hiking, watching the sunset with a glass of wine. Pool was also excellent with jets for weary post hike legs.

Clean, cozy and quiet little hotel in the heart of the Picos de Europa. Perfect location for a hiking holiday or just to spend some time in nature. The staff were kind and very helpful giving us information about the area. The room and bathroom were incredibly spacious with beautiful views. Breakfast was simple and healthy with everything needed to fuel up for a day of hiking. The sitting room with the extensive library and wood fire was the perfect place to relax in the cool evenings.

Everything was perfect! The room was clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable and overall the atmosphere in the room was very cosy. We had dinner there both nights we were staying and the food was great, a bit pricy but definitelty worth it! Also, the hotel is just 10 minutes walk from the village of Covadonga.

Excellent village hidden inside the Picos Europa.

Excellent village hidden inside the Picos Europa. The drive here is very long but you could use Caín as home base for a few days walk around. Or use it as a checkpoint along a longer walk. Can sleep outside in tents if dry. Hostels available. Also good is very good here from multiple bars / restaurants. Locals live and work here.

The rutas del cares is a one day event.

The rutas del cares is a one day event. Other hikes in the area but I can't imagine more breath taking than this hike. Definitely advise staying in Cain to start hike from that end and not bothering with the last 2km decent into poncebo. Was able to leave around noon and return by about 6:30. beautiful drive into the area from the northwest as well as the drive out into the northeast toward Santander. I've hiked the alps, west highland way, appalachain, Ireland. Ruta del cares is at least as amazing and well worth the stop if in the north of spain. Although long not difficult at all. Some really high cliffs but the path is plenty wide to not get panicky.

It's such an amazing path to walk.

It's such an amazing path to walk. The views are great throughout and the landscape keeps changing. We ate at the end of the path, in Poncebos and went back to Caín afterwards. Really nice feeling of accomplishment after the almost 25k :)

A unique place in the heart of the Picos de Europa mountains. The Cares Route is spectacular and easy to hike, offering breathtaking scenery. Excellent food is available in all the local restaurants. Enjoy outdoor activities in a tranquil and beautiful setting.

Cain is an amazing village.

Cain is an amazing village. Time seems to stand still there; it's peaceful, surrounded by nature, perfect for relaxation—it has everything. There are many mountain trails. Fantastic. We had the best burger ever at Bar Albergue.

Start of the Cares Route. Heart of the Picos de Europa. Good accommodations. Good people here. However long you stay, it will feel too short. You can hike all the mountains you want or relax in countless secluded spots. Forests, rivers...

Location is hard to beat and all of the small hotels in Cain offer a similar standard of stay. Not luxurious but beds were very comfortable with soft matteresses and pillows. Bathroom was serviceable. Room was warm as radiators came on overnight. There is indoor and terrace seating for drinks and food, basic but ok. Menu choice was good for both lunch and dinner, service good and the food was well cooked and tasty. Parking at the front of the hotel is limited but there are spaces nearby.

Don't be scared off by the word 'hostal'. The Standard Double Room that we booked turned out to be a spacious hotel room with a bathroom and comfortable bed. The hotel is in an extremely scenic location and right at the beginning of the popular Ruta de Cares. Lunch and dinner are served at the restaurant at a very reasonable price. All in all a great value!

Marvellous little hotel in the pretty village of Cain at one end of the Cares gorge. Great place to rest after 11km walk, wonderful family run it, delicious restaurant fare all at very reasonable price.
