This is a beautiful, compact, chateau, slightly off the beaten track. The house is set in beautiful gardens with a creek running through the back of the property. We loved the quietness. Edouard cooked a delicious three-course meal for us in the evening, very good value for money. The home was spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable.

Pleasant little lively mountain town limited altitude 450m; but with possibilities within a few dozen km to climb higher to 1450m for the Collet D'Allevard at about 10-12 km; the very near region allows beautiful walks and excursions, lakes and refuges nearby, baths for spa-goers.

The region is magnificent.

The region is magnificent. For the past three years, I've returned for a few days every year with my husband. This year we had rain, which made getting around a bit more difficult, but we enjoyed spa treatments and lovely walks with our two small dogs. That said, Allevard-les-Bains is a very beautiful village.

The sleepy town hasn't changed in the 10 years I've been going there. (The state of the streets is deplorable.) The municipality doesn't make much of an effort for tourism (spa tourism in my case). A nice restaurant discovery... but closed on Sundays.

The weather disappointed us, but I already knew Allevard, although I hadn't been back for a long time. And as I said, the description you gave for the rental is inaccurate; even the exterior entrance has a different name on the door. But it's not exactly a haven at the foot of the thermal baths.

The location was convenient for the local ski resort (the car park for Super Collet car park was a 23-minute drive), and it was budget friendly. This suited our needs. We didn't explore the town of Allevard, except to shop at the nearest Carrefour or get fuel. Both of which are less than 5 minutes away (the shop is an 8 minute walk).
