We hadn't meant to stop in Cirencester, but we'd gotten a bit lost in the area and hadn't eaten breakfast. We drove to the middle of town, marveled at the architecture, ate lunch at a delightful cafe just above a bookstore. Just beside the bookstore wad a glassblowing shop, where we watched the artisan and picked up some small souvenirs. Cirencester is a town that we had zero expectations about and fell in love with. We loved the walks around the town and the restaurants and parks. Very big old trees, the statues of the hare. The parish in Watermore was very welcoming when we joined the congregation for worship on Sunday. Unfortunately, the air raid shelter seems to have closed for the public. The history and buildings were really interesting. Plenty of shops and cafes within easy walking distance. Museums, amphitheatre and art galleries were great. Friendly people and the tourist information was a hit. Wish we had more time to visit the park. Lovely shops, a wide range of restaurants and pubs, a very interesting museum, Abbey grounds and Cirencester Park all make Cirencester a good choice for a short break. I stayed on my last night of a work trip as my colleague had to leave early, we had previously been staying in a nearby hotel that offered apartments. The Fleece was better in all respects and much cheaper. Breakfast at the Fleece was comparably very good, excellently cooked with much better service (although the quality of the ingredients didn’t seem quite as good as the nearby larger hotel). We were there for 3 nights and the staff were lovely and willing to help, especially Natalie (?). The bed was extremely comfortable and the best pillows we've had at a hotel! The room was impeccablely clean and they've modernised the bathroom whilst keeping its charm. Breakfast was delicious and they serviced our room daily. After we checked in we enjoyed dinner in the pub and had had an amazing Beef Wellington. If this is your favourite, you will not be disappointed. The following day it was a brief walk to the spa hotel for a delightful breakfast in the dining area over looking the gardens.
