AMAZING STAFF, SO, SO BUSY BUT ATTENTIVE , FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL. A REAL ASSETT TO THE HOTEL. SORRY I DONT HAVE NAMES BUT THE GUY WHO LOOKED AFTER US AND THE BAR GIRL WERE GREAT. AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE, LOVELY SETTING, GREAT BREAKFAST AND COFFEE. OH AND THE ROOM, WAS UNIQUE AND REGAL. GOOD OLD FASHIONED CUSTOMER SERICE WITH A PERSONAL TWIST. IF I OPEN UP A HOSPITALITY VENUE IM AFTER ALL YOUR STAFF!

Location brilliant. Immediate surroundings River and Chollerford Bridge awesome and also accessibility to Military Road by car excellent. Great value. Friendly knowledgeable staff at check in and out. All other staff friendly also.

We were walking the Hadrian’s wall and came into twice brewed late and the owner of the hotel went out of this way to pick us up and drive us to the museum In the morning. Highly recommend the food and service!

The golden Lion is situated very close to Hadrian’s Wall, making it ideal for a quick visit. The rooms are big and well presented, and the staff are amazing. The food is exactly what you want after a long walk or drive. Excellent quality and plenty of it. The breakfast options are superb. All in all, this place is well worth a visit. Just a shame I was only there for one night. Can recommend enough.

A good base for exploring Northumberland.

A good base for exploring Northumberland. Did the Northumberland 250 absolutely amazing.Some brilliant scenery, castles, forts, incredible roads and stunning beaches. Love this area, still have more to explore. Will return.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming accommodation. Good breakfast and lovely location. I was staying in the area to take part in a charity challenge at Hadrians Wall and so Shaftoe's location was ideal for me

For those wanting to see Hadrian's wall and the nearby Roman...

For those wanting to see Hadrian's wall and the nearby Roman ruins and adjoining museums (Housesteads and Vindolanda, especially - the museum there is amazing), this is the place to go to as it's so close to those places. Not a great selection of restaurants as it's a very small town, but nearby Hexham just minutes away by train or car fills the bill for that.

Haydon Bridge is about 15 minutes drive to Housesteads Fort, one of the best preserved forts on Hadrian’s Wall.The town has a good feel to it. The Fish and Chip shop opposite the Anchor Hotel makes great pizzas.

Very good base to stay for visiting Hadrian's wall but the village is quite small with not much there. However it has a pretty old bridge over the river. If you come in the evening don't expect to get a meal at any of the 3 pubs in the village as only one of them serves food and was fully booked when we tried to get in on a Thursday evening. We stayed here and had to eat fish and chips in our room from the fish and chip shop.

This apartment is the very place to stay if you want to visit Hadrian's Wall historic sites! The village of Haydon Bridge is very beautiful and quaint. The people in the stores and local pub were very helpful and polite.
