The staff were friendly and welcoming.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The evening meal was good but poor breakfast choices . Whilst the room was clean and cosy, we were over the kitchen so a " fishy" smell permitted the corridor and room. It was also noisy outside through the night but this was not the hotel's fault

Mistley is still very much a working waterfront; it's a bit industrial but interesting. We walked around Mistley, admired the architecture and the Mistley swan, went to the quayside crafts centre and their excellent cafe. It's a pleasant walk into Manningtree along the Stour. We travelled there by train from Liverpool St via Manningtree - an easy journey. Then used the local line to get to Wrabness to walk the Stour and look at the House for Julie. Also used a local bus to go to Dedham for a very good Sunday lunch and a visit to Alfred Munnings' house and gallery which was wonderful.

Mistley is small but has a great history.

Mistley is small but has a great history. It is easy to walk into Manningtree but driving there is also easy, taking only a few minutes. There are great views across the estuary and plenty of bird life for those interested in birdwatching. There is a railway station and there are also buses. Many interesting places to visit and lots of walking in the surrounding area. The Mistley Thorn has a very good restaurant and provides food and refreshment all day and into the evening. A very comfortable place to stay.

A quaint old world hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Very creaky floors. Comfortable bed and a warm spacious room. . The clothes rail in the wardrobe of my room was too high for me to hang my clothes up. I had to lay them across the armchair. I would have preferred a slide rail in the shower as I do not like the overhead downpour

Very busy quaint hotel set beside a river, staff were always friendly and happy to help, it’s a great little hotel to stay for a few days sightseeing. Maybe rooms are on the small side but otherwise a very pleasant stay.

The hotel itself is exceptional.

The hotel itself is exceptional. And it's a ten minute stroll along the estuary to Manningtree. I had lunch at Lucca which seems to be also owned by Mistley Thorn. Again a high standard of food, wine and attentive service. I also visited the North House Gallery in Manningtree which officially opens only on Saturdays but I was able to arrange an appointment on Friday by texting the owner. Well worth a visit. Excellent exhibition called "Shore' with six different artists. Mistley on the main road is pretty unsightly right now, with high fencing erected on the road edge by the estuary.
