I actually spent most of my time enjoying the architecture of the smaller villages around Thame. I found the little 13th century church of Great Haseley very charming. It had a war memorial to the Americans who died protecting the area and its authentic old architecture and church yard were just what I had in mind. Great Milton is dominated by its very expensive manor hotel but I hear the dining is worth the trip if you have the coin.

I visited following a wedding in Dinton church, with a reception at Notley Abbey. Thame seems to be fairly well served with shops and hostelries; staying on a Saturday night in Central Thame Cottage I wasn’t disturbed by outside noise at all. The report from friends staying in the Spread Eagle a couple of hundred yards down the road, was that there was noise both at the front and back into the small hours of the morning from two different parties. The evening meal on Saturday I had at The Thatch pub, in a private room, was excellent, and breakfast at the Spread Eagle on Sunday morning was fine.

Thame is a very nice small market town.

Thame is a very nice small market town. There are some very lovely medieval buildings in the high street and a nice church where Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees is buried. It is a very good base for cycling either to the north, north-west to Oxford or south to the Chilterns. There is the Phoenix Trail which will take you to the base of the Chilterns. Lots of nice tea rooms and good parking either in the centre of the town or in various car parks near the high street.

I had a lovely stay although very short as travelling and staying for work purposes. However the bath plug did not fit and kept emptying the bath. All staff were very pleasent and helpful where needed.

I really like the Red Lion and have stayed here before. The lady is really friendly and cooks a great breakfast. This is a pub (which is also a village shop) with three rooms above, simple and clean and quiet. If you are expecting a mini bar and all that add on, it's really not for you. But most hotels don't have lamas (alpacas?) in the field behind so for me the Red Lion wins hands down.

Wonderful quirky hotel similar to others in market towns across the UK with rambling corridors and oddly shaped rooms. Although extended its irigins date back to the coaching era. Very well situated in the town.

Good golf course. Hotel was good, albeit a little tired, meaning decoration and fit out of the rooms. Good value for money. All staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful
