This was our first stay while in Italy. We were there for two nights and had a very nice time while there. The room and other areas were gorgeous and the grounds well kept and very pleasant. They have a very nice restaurant with an outdoor patio, which was wonderful. The surrounding town of Ercolano is not that pretty, so this was a welcome oasis. It is very close to the ruins of Herculaneum, which we visited on our first day. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

The location is fantastic, a stone's throw from the entrance to the archaeological park at Herculaneum. The hotel was very clean and matched the description on Booking.com. The hotel staff was friendly, and the service was excellent. We booked tours and a transfer to the airport through the hotel, and everything went smoothly. It was nice to spend time with friends on the large shared terrace. In the room, there was tea, coffee, and croissants (complimentary) for breakfast. Ercolano as an area was peaceful and safe, and the train station was about a 5-minute walk away. If you don’t want to stay in the hustles of Naples, this is a very good alternative. Our holiday with friends was a success.

What an absolutely delight! We booked the Le Colonne B&B at the last minute, and what a little Gem. Location and facilities we brilliant. Instructions and communications were all top notch. They even let us leave our bags after checkout while we climbed Mt Vesuvius asa courtesy. The Herculaneum is 10mins walk from the front door. If you are in this part of the country do not hesitate to reserve a room.

We really wanted to see the archaeological site and stay at Villa Durante. Both places didn't disappoint. We also found good restaurants there. Pedestrian pavements were better than in Naples but still difficult to walk on with luggage. It is a good place to stay if travelling on to Pompeii or Sorrento.

Perfect smaller alternative to Pompeii. Some places better preserved, shorter walking experience, walkable in few hours/half day, cheaper. Better than Pompeii for family with easily bored kids, less crowdy.

You can just soak up the history, not just in the 2000 year old Roman ruins of Herculeaum but also as you stroll through the lanes and passages of Ercolono itself, a wonderful town in it's own right.

It’s not the most beautiful town but the view from our...

It’s not the most beautiful town but the view from our appartment had beautiful views of the bay of Naples for a lot less than you pay in Sorrento. It’s a very good spot to catch the train to Pompeii ( the ruins are right beside Pompeii Scavi station change at Torre de Annunziata) Sorrento, Vesuvius and the stunning Herculaneum. There are plenty of great places to eat and a few volcanic sand beaches to relax after a long walk up a volcano. We enjoyed our pizzas at RoVi and walked into Portici for drinks at Vivarium’s rooftop bar and a fantastic seafood tasting menu at Da Guisieppe al Granatello

Nice area to walk around although many restaurants close in the afternoon and then open after 7pm. Some were closed for the summer season. There was some litter on the streets. People were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed 3 nights, and Ercolano was very convenient for visiting each of Pompeii, Ercolano, and Mt Vesuvio. We would suggest visiting both archeological sites as they provide complementary insights into Roman life and culture. A local guide by the name of Marily(Marialibera Guadagno) was recommended to us and she was brilliant. Having a private guide with her knowledge and humour added immeasurably to our experience.

Exceptional welcome with freshly made Napoli coffee for us on arrival. The owners were so kind and helped booking great restaurants etc. Immaculate 2nd floor apartment. Views of the bay of Naples from every room (see photo from balcony) and balconies for morning coffee . 14 minute walk from the station ( and the Vesuvius express bus) , about 5 minutes to Herculaneum site and 10 minutes walk to the nearest beach to relax after our morning trip up Vesuvius ( swim between the swim buoys) .

Met by owner and introduced us to the room. Lots of space and very very comfortable. Good bed and bathroom facilities. Lots of space. Little kitchenette came with food for breakfast, snacks and hot drinks. Close to ruins (10 minute walk). Parked on site and left car there all day. Restaurants nearby were very good. Owner helped book us a table at the nearby one as it was quite late at night when we arrived (delayed flight). Felt very safe walking around.

A very enjoyable stay. Apartment clean and comfortable, hostess nice and helpful. Great location - in the city center, you can really feel the atmosphere of the town. Close to the ruins of Herculaneum and to the train station, restaurants and shops nearby. Ercolano itself is a great place for a vacation and a good base for exploring the region.
