Academic and Artistic Greatness
An artistic gem, Padua (or Padova in Italian) seamlessly combines awe-inspiring heritage and a modern vibe. Counting Galileo among its former tutors, the University has the world’s oldest UNESCO World Heritage-listed botanical garden.
Across the road is huge Prato della Valle, a green square with a canal lined by 78 statues, and home to a Saturday market. A market is also held in squares near to Palazzo della Ragione whose multi-levelled arches and vaulted wooden ceiling are an impressive sight. Cobbled, porticoed streets lead to the finely-crafted Gran Loggia and clock tower.
Every church has incredible décor, but the most famous is Saint Anthony of Padua, boasting the bones of the saint, an impressive 7 cupolas and 4 cloisters. The square in front has a statue by Donatello. Padua Cathedral's simple exterior houses amazing frescoes inside the baptistery by Giotto, creator of the jewel in Padua’s crown – the Scrovegni Chapel. His 14th century frescoes there have been meticulously restored to be as vibrant as the day they were painted.
The closest airport is Venice Marco Polo, but before you head there from your Padua hotel, apartment or B&B take time to enjoy the narrow streets around Palazzo del Bò or the Jewish district.

Like most Italian cities, Padova is worth visiting.
Like most Italian cities, Padova is worth visiting. For those who want to learn about the cradle of free secular thought, Padova is a must location as the oldest secular university in the world and the first university that gave a uni degree to a woman. And top this with the usual mindblowing medieval, Venetian Gothic and Renaissance architecture. You can't see Scrovegni Chapel anywhere else and a cute private Museum of Precinema at Palazzo Angeli. After traveling to so many places in Italy, Padova is possibly one of the most underrated cities. There are several basilicas, chapels, markets, piazzas and restaurants to visit. A lovely city.
A lovely city. Beautiful architecture, everything from gift shops to high end stores. It's not very 'touristy', which means it keeps that traditional Italian charm. Lovely food, friendly people too. It's bigger than you think - keep walking and you'll find more squares, shops etc. If you want to go to Venice - get a tram to the train station (5 min journey) the lovely trains go every 15 mins or so and take half hour - right into Venice.Guest review bysteveUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Padova is a wonderful city full of history and amazing walks. Cafe, bars restaurants everywhere and all of excellent quality. The people of Padova are extremely friendly and very helpful.
