Overlooking the Bay of Naples and with views of the Vesuvius volcano, Sorrento is a colourful town in Campania. According to the Greek legend, it was the land of the sirens that had the power to enchant with their singing.
The town of Sorrento has gorgeous Renaissance and Baroque architecture, and a big variety of restaurants, shops and cafés. Built around the 11th century, the Romanesque Cathedral of Sorrento is the city’s most important landmark. The charming Bell Tower with the beautiful majolica clock is the first thing that you will notice.
The picturesque harbour of Marina Grande has some of the best restaurants in the city. Wander around during sunset and you will see fishermen cleaning their nets. Marina Piccola is the place to get a ferry to Capri, Amalfi and Naples.
Born in a garden of lemon and oranges, the traditional yellow liquor of limoncello is a unique aperitif or digestive drink. The mediterranean climate of Sorrento helps in the production of this famous refreshment.

Sorrento is not a beach holiday there is lots of walking involved the local buses and trains are a good way to get around. A beautiful part of the world and would recommend visiting other areas of Italy , Positano, Almalfi, Capri . Enjoyed Cucu bar the food was great and the staff. My husband and I have been to Sorrento a few times in the past 5 years. It is very beautiful. We have really noticed the increase in tourism and especially the increase in cost of eating out. Elastic pants are definitely your friend here as the food is so good and some of the restaurants outstanding! We have visited Pompeii, Herculaneum, Positano, Amalfi. Sorrento overall was fine. Plenty of top quality restaurants, although we had a poor experience at a restaurant in the Marina Grande. Would highly recommend the Cantinaccia del Popolo, not easy to find, it sits exactly (10m) opposite the Hotel Zi’Teresa. Be prepared to queue after 6.30pm, however it is well worth the wait. If you only have a few days, you should stay in Amalfi, or Positano or Capri, etc. Sorrento is nice but not as special. If you have many days then stay in Sorrento and do day trips. The location was great, walk to Train station (10~15 minutes), walk to Porto di Sorrento about 15 minutes (remember asking Host for elevator), Host was very helpful, we stay in room #4, the shower space was in small size, but not bother us at all. (other rooms maybe have bigger shower space). Sorrento is a very expensive city, this property was great value for money. Our EU trips including UK, France and Italy.
