We really enjoyed our stay here! When you entered Byakudan, you can smell sandalwood right away, it’s so calming and it’s a vibe. The staff welcomed us with fresh green tea and japanese snacks. Everything was done perfectly and the staff were so nice and helpful. The girl who served us during dinner and breakfast, her name is Saki, she was so helpful and nice to us, even wrote us a little thank you note before our departure. It was so sweet of her. And we hope to see her again during our next stay in Byakudan :)

We had the most incredible and relaxing time here. Food was unexpectedly a large tasting menu of fine small dishes and was great! Staff are amazing and so kind, facilities are great, location is lovely and scenic and quiet. Onsen is clean and beautiful. All in all great time, didn’t want to leave

The staff is very helpful and nice. Relaxing Onsen in the house. Quiet place , agreeable house and beautiful nature around. Very good location for hiking to Mount Kintoki and around. The owner brought me to the bus stop as it was raining and my suitcase was very heavy. The staff speaks English.

A quiet town but buzzling with Tradition and History.

A quiet town but buzzling with Tradition and History. The food is amazing and the Onsen's are good. Biggest Challenge here is the transport. I recommend renting a car here especially if you want to go to neighbouring areas like Shizuoka, Fujikawaguchiko and Kamakura so see Mt. Fuji.

Loved the Open Air Museum -- great sculpture garden. And it has a foot bath, because why not? Nearby we stopped at the Gyoza Center, which was delicious. We did the Ropeway, and were delighted by the whole active volcano thing. There's a foot bath there, too. My feet have never been so pampered. With more time, I would have taken a ferry on the lake, and/or trained around to the other parts of Hakone, which is actually more spread out than I fully appreciated. I know people do Hakone as a day trip from Tokyo, but I think it was quite fun to stay and experience the full effect of hot springs culture.

The cable car ride up and over the volcanic fumaroles

The cable car ride up and over the volcanic fumaroles then down to Lake Ashi, and a boat trip across the lake. The parks, gardens and the cedar lined old Tokkaido Edo period road A reconstructed gatehouse and one of the old 17th century "Stations" on the Tokkaido. Fantastic views of Fuji san. One of the highlights of my trip

Second time to Hakone.

Second time to Hakone. Cool town and even better is the Hakone Freepass. For around $30 you get to ride the Tozan Train, Cable Car, Ropeway and Sightseeing Cruise! Incredible value - buy at train station or online. Don't miss the black ice cream or black eggs at the halfway stop along the Hakone Ropeway.

Peak autumn colour. Museums outstanding.

Peak autumn colour. Museums outstanding. The train switchbacks up to the top were fun and interesting. We went up to top in the cable car. Fantastic. But queues were extremely long but well enough managed. The clouds lifted while we were in the queue (approaching 2 hours long?) and everyone was treated to fantastic views of Mt Fuji as the late afternoon sun lit it up. Beautiful.

I really loved Hakone and would definitely visit again.

I really loved Hakone and would definitely visit again. There are many small trails in the mountains that are great for walking and enjoying nature. The Glass Museum and the Open-Air Museum are must-see attractions, both are beautiful and well worth the visit. Lake Ashi was calm, scenic, and very peaceful. I truly enjoyed my time in Hakone and wish I could have stayed longer. I would have loved to walk around more

The room (family room with tatami area) is generously spacious, with an amazing onsen facility next door. I love that guests can change into traditional outfits and walk around the hotel wearing them. The staffs are helpful and kind. I am grateful to one of the reviewers here who mentioned that the hotel is accessible from Hotel Okada via an elevator. This saved us from having to walk up the steep hill every time we wanted to go to and from the hotel. The shuttle to Hakone Yumoto station was also a great addition.

Everything! Hotel is in a beautiful setting, basically on the shore of Lake Ashi. It's a 5-minute walk from the hotel to the sightseeing cruise (which is a great way to explore Lake Ashi), and the Hakone Ropeway which we also recommend doing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Private onsen (that you pay for - $30 for 40 minutes) was a lovely experience, although there is a public onsen which is free to use. Buffet breakfast and dinner were included in the price and were amazing, catering for all palates.

The hotel is in a fab location, 2 minutes from the train station. The room is authentic and really comfortable and clean. The breakfast and dinner are served in a private dining room, are delicious if you like Japanese food! - and we thought great value for money. The private Onsen is an experience as is the open air bath if you book that room. We would really recommend. Make sure you are hungry for breakfast and dinner! Hakone pass is gpod value fo r money.

Great location, 7 min walk from hakone-yumoto train station and close to kombini and restaurants in town and fantastic room! Room was bigger than expected and rooftop onsen was amazing! Hot hot onsen, but easy to cool down if needed. Staff were also very helpful 😁, late check-in time but was able to leave bags at hotel until the room was ready.

Everything about this hotel was perfect -> amazing staff, old world charm , breakfast spread and restaurants at the property. The private onsen was brilliant too and they had a kids play area where our son had a great time. Best part was the location as it is right in front of the hakone yumoto station which made every place very accessible.
