From the moment of arrival to drop off at train station, top class treatment throughout. It’s a historic, well-established hotel nestled in a quiet forest catering to celebrities and well-heeled travelers since 1894. Service and meal offerings were spectacular; the rooms modern and well-appointed, on par with any four-and five star hotels. Something that really caught my attention was the cushioned floors in the room; walking on them gave a level of comfort I’ve not felt at other hotels. And end your day at the iconic bar where John Lennon entertained those gathered on that piano when he stayed here.

The foods tasted better than it looks, pictures failed to justify the flavor. The room is just giving a different vibe and energies. I love the robes and winter coat provided, they are light but amazingly warm!

The best part was the staff, family owned, the mom/dad/son/ daughter-in-law were all so nice and warm hearted. They went out of their way to be accommodating and friendly, despite limited English. Food was excellent, not Japanese, don’t miss the outdoor promenade garden walk in the woods. Plus there are two private onsen baths for couples or families. Opera theme was charming and we appreciated the beds after several days on the futons of other inns. The rooms are small but the overall vibe of the hotel was really excellent. I would definitely recommend!

The room was very spacious and clean, the beds were comfortable, and the shower felt fantastic after a day of walking and exploring. The staff deserve to be commended as well because they were so friendly and welcoming. I really wish I had a chance to thank all of them personally. The location is amazing as well because the hotel is located right above a shopping district and connected to Ginza street.

This is a fantastic hotel; location, service, amenities, and the room were all excellent. The people at the front desk were friendly and very helpful, this applied to literally 5-6 people I had interacted with. The service was great, even after electing not to have our room made up, we came back to fresh waters and towels by the door. The room was spacious and very clean. We had the traditional Japanese room, two double beds with a tatami area, for a family of 4, two kids 11 and 14, there were plenty of space for us. Futons were available for the tatami area which was perfect the kids, and the beds were much softer than the typical hotels in Japan. Separate shower and toilet room, both with sinks, was also very convenient. There’s also a library next to a lounge area with a cozy fireplace and cushy leather chairs and free espresso and drinks. I was able to get some work done without being disturbed as it was very quiet. The hotel is about a 7-8 min leisure walk from the Kariuzawa station, super quiet neighborhood, though it may be because the ski season had virtually ended. It took around 10-15 min walk from the hotel to the outlet shopping area in the south side of the station, which had all of the restaurants. The location was superb, easy to find places to eat and get to the ski resort, a 10 min free bus ride from the outlet area.

    Karuizawa is a little gem "off the beaten track" for mist travelers to Japan. A tourist loop bus makes it easy to explore. There are coffee shops, restaurants, shops, & onsens. Excellent hiking too! And for those who like to shop, there's a huge outlet mall right next to the train station.

    We had a good time at the Ski Resort and the Shopping...

    We had a good time at the Ski Resort and the Shopping Outlets and plenty of Food Choices. We were able to hike going to Hoshino Olsen and also had a wonderful breakfast in the area. The outdoor ice skating area was also great. Bus schedules are far in between but you can opt to take taxi although more expensive

    We spent a couple of nights here so my kids can do a ski lesson on one of the days. One could certainly choose to take a day trip from Tokyo for such an activity. However, we wanted to get away from the big city that is Tokyo and it was such a lovely experience. By some stroke of luck, it started snowing as well so that's a bonus for my kids. Around the train station and at the Prince hotel 'mall' there is a 7-11 and a number of restaurants that are pretty good. We did not manage to visit the falls unfortunately. All in all, the quiet serene character of Karuizawa was very much appreciated.

    Beautiful area with an Alpine feel.

    Beautiful area with an Alpine feel. Plenty of great restaurants. Lots of beautiful nature and hiking. Definitely take the bus up to Shiraito Falls, a unique waterfall like nothing you’ve ever seen.

    It is such a beautiful town, we did a bicycle tour with a guide and you can basically cover and get to know most of the town and heritage that way. We went in early June and the weather was perfect, cool and just right. 6 days was just nice for us.

    Karuizawa offers an amazing small town charm with excellent food, friendly people, and accessible nature. Definitely check out the Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel tour to view Musasabi! The only downside to this beautiful town is that it's a bit more pricey than the rest of Japan.

    We were well looked after at the Karuizawa Prince Hotel East. The hotel and facilities were lovely, modern and comfortable. The hotel shuttle buses took us wherever we needed to go. We had delicious dinner and breakfast in the grill restaurant just off the hotel lobby.
