Excellent hotel, immaculately clean, friendly staff, great amenities and super close to the station. More of a business hotel I think buy we were fine as tourists. Coin laundry on site. Short walk to big supermarket, resturants and convenience stores. Great value for money. Easy walk to the zoo and park to see the red pandas.

The guesthouse was spacious and fully equipped, and the bedrooms were laid out beautifully. The property was very close to several excellent restaurants (and a fantastic French patisserie down the back streets), and well situated to explore the local artisan villages. Our host was extremely friendly and very helpful - pointing out the local sites and organising taxis for us. … and we loved the Kotobuki restaurant!… ( recommended by our host)-great food and a wonderful friendly family!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the amazing Tabaki house in Echizen, and it was truly a memorable experience. The host went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. He personally organized several tours for us, showcasing the best of Echizen's rich culture and history. His dedication and local knowledge made our trip extra special. Tabaki itself is a gem, steeped in history with beautiful, well-preserved architecture. Every room tells a story, and the traditional design combined with modern amenities provided a comfortable and unique stay. Breakfast was another highlight – delicious and thoughtfully prepared, offering a variety of local specialties that gave us a true taste of Echizen. Overall, our stay at Tabaki was exceptional. The host's hospitality, the amazing house, and the fantastic breakfast all contributed to an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Echizen!

The egg cutlet bowl set at Ajimiya was delicious.

The egg cutlet bowl set at Ajimiya was delicious. The grated daikon radish soba noodles were crisp and refreshing. I was grateful that an elderly lady served me. Oyama Kofun County is a unique place with ancient tombs scattered throughout the mountain. Home to Funatsu Shrine and Saint Shinran's car training hall, it's a place that exudes spirituality. It's not a tourist destination, so there isn't much to see. On the other hand, the remaining old townscape may be interesting for those unfamiliar with life in a snowy country. Sabae City's greatest asset is its people. Many of the people are very gentle and kind. It would be nice to have shops and places where you can connect with the people of Sabae.

I went to Sabae to participate in the annual "Glasses Festival." The streets of Sabae, the city of glasses, are filled with high-quality eyeglasses. From Sabae Station to the Glasses Museum, you'll find a variety of playful eyeglass-themed items, making just walking around a joyous experience. Whenever I visit Sabae, I always make a point of visiting Nishiyama Park. It's a spacious park with a zoo on a hilltop, home to many red pandas. They're so adorable, I always come back to see them every year. There's also a roadside station, so I usually buy souvenirs here. Their famous azalea soft serve ice cream has a distinctly azalea flavor! Nishiyama Park is about a 10-minute ride on the community bus from in front of the station. I was impressed by the friendly and welcoming people. There's also a 7-Eleven directly connected to the station, but be aware that it closes early.

My purpose in visiting Sabae City was a somewhat unique historical exploration. It included a visit to the recently restored Kabutoyama Kofun and the museum (Sabae Manabe no Yakata) where a special exhibition is being held; a stroll around the hill where the Oyama Kofun Group is located; and a short trip to the Echizen Town Oda Cultural History Museum, which displays artifacts related to Oda Nobunaga's ancestors, and Tsurugi Shrine and Oda Shrine, both associated with the Oda clan. In particular, the museum's permanent exhibits include the burial mounds and kofun groups scattered around Sabae City, spanning from the Yayoi to Kofun periods, lesser-known mountaintop keyhole-shaped tombs, and numerous valuable artifacts excavated from kofun tombs. This is recommended not only for kofun enthusiasts, but also for history buffs and the general public. Incidentally, I had conveyor belt sushi for dinner, and as you'd expect from a Hokuriku fish restaurant, everything was delicious.
