Our apartment was spotless and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the endless sea and direct access to the beach. Every morning, Maximus spoiled us with a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast. The beach feels untouched and wonderfully quiet, and just a short walk away there’s a calm bay perfect for swimming. With the Pick Me app, getting around—even from the airport—is easy and affordable. A hidden gem for anyone seeking tranquility, warmth, and authenticity.

A pool sits just below your steps, and breakfast is served beside the river. Turn right to reach the beach road’s bars and shops; turn left into town to meet kind locals. But what truly makes this magical is the people. Rafi goes above and beyond with genuine care and kindness. He brought an umbrella to shelter me during a rain shower. He helped arrange tuk-tuks, shopping, and even welcomed me into his beautiful village. That day will stay with me. Chuti’s cooking is out of this world — soulful curries cooked to perfection. Asanka, Cha, and the rest of the team are warm, intuitive, and quietly brilliant. Returning to your cottage feels like the fairies have been — everything clean, calm, and glowing. It’s the kind of place that makes you breathe deeper, sleep better, and believe in the goodness of people again. I travel a lot. I’m extremely picky. And I can say — from Monte Carlo to Mauritius — this is in my top three stays anywhere in the world. The Cottage is family, nature, care, and calm wrapped into one unforgettable experience. Places like this aren’t found — they find you. And they stay with you.

We loved the location. Further form the dirty beach, in nice green quiet neighbourhood. Close to a train station, not far from the airport. The hosts are extremely pleasant and the hotel is worth a lot more than it is sold for. The food was good, the room was spacious (old aircon bit noisy). The best part of course was the pool. Clean, big and deep. Best pool I ever had in these hotels. I could have spent a day sunbathing and swimming. Great place,

This place is perfection! From the warm welcome to our stunning suite to the food, the service - it does not get any better than this. The Uga Riva is at the same time a journey to the past and an expierience of contemporary luxury at its best. Be it the beautifully decorated rooms, the pool, the garden, the restaurant, everything was just perfect. The service was exceptional. All the staff are obviously highly trained professionals, and are kind and welcoming hosts. A true experience!

Outstanding stay in Waterland, I do not usually leave long reviews however I would not be fair if I don’t. All start when you reach the place you immediately feel the luxury, quietness and privacy. We have been welcomed by Suresh and the Team which have done everything for us to feel home. I was spectical to book it when I went through the reviews but I do not regret at all. It is juste people not knowing the local rules and conditions and being really picky. We stayed in the monsoon villa 3 bedrooms in which they have added a third air conditioning in the 3rd room still showing in booking.com as without AC. The breakfast was excellent and the entire menu very tasty even some would say not many varieties but we all know heavy menus choices usually lower the quality. So the few items available were delicious and high quality. It was my birthday while there and again the Team made it unforgettable with cake, banners, balloons in our villa and all this when we were on the boat tour. So let’s talk about this boat tour, guided tour with explanations of the wildlife around, stopped at the beach to take some pictures and on the river bank to drink King coconuts while in the boat. A was searching for some Anoda (local fruit) and they found it and procured it for me. I requested a car to head to another place at check out time and Suresh was honest enough to advise me that it will be cheaper to book a pick me or Uber ride due to it’s proximity. We were travelling from the UAE and used to high standing hotels and to find a such place in Sri Lanka at this standing I can only say well done.
