My wife's father had been born and spent his early years in Sneek before emigrating to South Africa in 1946 as a young man. In his lounge at home he had a picture of the Sneek Waterpoort that my wife grew up seeing every day. The sole reason for the trip was for her to see where he had grown up, and we wanted a hotel that had a view of the iconic Waterpoort. We were not disappointed! The hotel is 50m from the poort and the room was beautiful! Contemporary furnishings, very clean, with the most magnificent view of the Waterpoort and the town from the window and the balcony. Marcel, the owner and person we communicated with, was very helpful and gave us all the access information (security codes) we needed to get into the property. He also gave us some good recommendations for dinner (De Walrus Grand Cafe- excellent!) and breakfast (Royaal Belegd - also excellent and right next door to the hotel). He sent us a text with all the above information after we had spoken. We happened to meet him the next morning at the hotel and we chatted for a bit - a lovely man. We both enjoyed our stay at Hotel Hoogend and would highly reccommend it.

The rooms are simple but the beds unbelievably comfortable. We were away for two weeks and the beds here the best of many stops. A warm welcome and excellent breakfast. Very attractive restaurant. Hope to return!

The village is very quiet and peaceful, with many pretty, varied houses boasting well-kept front gardens and a church in the center. There are no shops or restaurants directly in the village, but these are easily accessible within a few minutes' drive.

Hein Willem is an excellent host with a B&B in a beautiful waterfront location in Raerd. Every morning he delivers a delicious breakfast. And he always has time for a friendly chat on the waterside lounge sofa. Highly recommended!

The B&B is conveniently located in a small village, not far...

The B&B is conveniently located in a small village, not far from larger cities like Leeuwarden and Heerenveen. It's easily accessible by highway and provincial road. Parking is available opposite the B&B (approximately 150 meters). The hosts are welcoming, friendly, hospitable, and customer-focused. The property is also ideal for nature walks in the surrounding area.
