We recently had the pleasure of spending three nights at the High Peaks Hotel, and I must say, it was an incredible experience! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home. Lucy, the manager, truly went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. Her attention to detail and genuine care for her guests was evident in every interaction. She was always available to answer our questions, provide recommendations for local attractions, and make us feel welcome. Lucy's friendly demeanor and professionalism made our stay even more enjoyable. The hotel itself was fantastic, with comfortable rooms and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The amenities were top-notch, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Overall, our stay at the High Peaks Hotel was nothing short of amazing. The location is good, easy to walk to the supermarket and eat in the town; Very quiet, with wide and beautiful gardens; The house is clean and comfortable, and you can see the beautiful scenery of snow-capped mountains and sunrise from the doors and Windows. We chatted and drank tea inside; There were 5 rooms, 4 of which had toilets, and the kitchen was well equipped for cooking, but we didn't use the meals we ate outside. The price is not expensive, it can be a comfortable vacation for 10 people, and should stay more than a few days.

If you come to Fox - you have to take the chopper up and do...

If you come to Fox - you have to take the chopper up and do the glacier landing and walk around - it's just another world. Otherwise, you are doing this part of NZ a disservice. There are plenty of amazing short walks which just about any fitness level can do. Many amazing views and this part of the world is simply beautiful - it can very quickly put in to perspective just how poor humans are at managing our other natural habitats in our normal living domain (cities/suburbia/sprawl). I'm very glad to have seen Fox and surrounding areas.

Fox Glacier view point and beautiful Lake Matheson are both...

Fox Glacier view point and beautiful Lake Matheson are both nearby the accommodation and were great to see . The Fran’s Josef glacier view point is only half an hour drive away and a must see . Betsy Jane’s restaurant was really good and is 2 mins walk from the property .

I loved how time stood still. very relaxing, a beautiful natural environment with clean crisp air. Friendly locals. Betty Janes was a great place for dinner definitely try the Deep sea orange roughy. Friendly obliging staff. 10/10 Breakfast at the cafe lake matherson spot on too!

Fox Glaciers was a high point in our Kiwi journey! We were impressed with its natural beauty and majestic scenery. The Fox Glacier Lodge played a key role in ensuring us a pleasant and relaxing experience in one of the South Island’s most attractive places. We highly recommend Fox Glacier Lodge to those who plan to spend a few days in exploring the fantastic Fox Glaciers / Joseph Glaciers’ many attractions. Oh, did we mention the helicopter tours?

Fox Glacier is very small, just a few motels and a couple of...

Fox Glacier is very small, just a few motels and a couple of eateries, but is a good base for seeing the sights e.g. Fox Glacier and Lake Matheson. Need a car. Franz Josef is the nearest town (slightly larger) which is half an hour away... more choice if eateries and accommodation.

The townsite of Fox Glacier is small, but with a good...

The townsite of Fox Glacier is small, but with a good variety of eating places, including the pub. The glacier itself has retreated significantly since I was last there almost 40 years ago. You can also get good views of the mountains in the Westland Tai Poutini National Park by driving about 10km from the townsite along a dirt track (Cook Flat Road).

The hotel is well situated on the outskirts of Fox Glacier and was right beside a little walk through the rainforest. The proprietor recommended some local walks. Due to bad weather, we only managed the 'Glowworm walk' at night but that was amazing - hundreds of glowworms shining brightly despite the cold and rain!

Fox Glacier Lodge was a really nice place to stay. The room we had was large and comfortable and the staff offered a free glow worm walk at night. The location is right near the Minnehaha walk and a short drive from lake Matheson and the Fox Glacier viewpoint. We only had one night here, but enjoyed our stay!
