Unfortunately the unit we stayed in was infested with ants which were in the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. We awoke to find them in our beds and crawling all over us. Most unpleasant experience. I advised the manager but he didn't really apologise and I believe he was aware of the situation. His response was that he would need to get a pest controller in. I felt he didn't believe us, but we showed the cleaners and they were shockewd.

Taihape has a captive client base as everyone has to travel through there. McDonald's doesn't open till 10am for breakfast. There are various degrees or quality of food outlets. There is a good cheap fuel outlet which I think is Waitomo. We were directed to either subway or the roast shop beside it. The roast shop smelt heavily of cigarette smoke so we opted for subway which was clean and tidy. Taihape could do with more quality cafes. I go through often and normally target the army museum as my stop off point as the food is quality and predictable. Taihape needs to upgrade its overall image of food outlets to cause more people to want to stop there.

Great resting place on our journey South and then again on our way North. We enjoyed being able to walk around the town and loved our time in the Brown Sugar Cafe.
There were a great selection of shops to interest all and Taihape is in close proximity to enjoy many Rangitikei activities.

It was great to be staying at a rural B&B in such an attractive location. The host Leah was very welcoming and has obviously added personal touches of her own. Home baking and preserves are always welcome! We would love to return for a longer stay

Taihape is a quaint quiet country town. The locals are a friendly lot and like to have a chat. I didn’t venture out much during my 2 days there but when I did,it was relatively easier to find my way around. The only disappointment I had was there was only one takeaways open in the afternoon/evening.(Chinese),fortunately New Worlds is handy.

It was a great place to stop for the night. We had takeaways for dinner. Visited the giant gumboot at night - the spotlights were on and the kids loved it. We had breakfast at Brown Sugar, which was nice. Then we were on our way to the rest of our holiday.

Taihape is a small town and we were very happy to find a nice place to stay. Jolande and Daniel are great hosts and we felt welcome from the first minute. The accommodation is great, the bed is comfortable and there is a nice TV room and spacious bathroom. Breakfast (of our choice) was included and Jolande makes a yummy home-made sourdough bread.
In short walking distance are the famous gumboot for selfies and a fantastic steak restaurant, you will not regret to visit.

The host had thought of everything and had special touches throughout the home . As two female travellers we felt warm and safe and truly appreciated that the host had turned the heat pump on for us and the electric blankets on the bed.
She helped us to enjoy Taihape as a beautiful town to stay in and we enjoyed hearing her journey in restoring the beautiful villa and to share it with others.
