Amazing location in the middle of the vineyard. The owners were very friendly and available for anything we need. The POD is cosy and has all the amenities that you need. Just visit the grocery store and cook your perfect dinner, whilst enjoying the sunset and the stars. There was a strong wind when we stayed (for which the owners pre-informed us 1 day prior to our arrival; so we are aware of the situation) Despite that we felt safe and still had an amazing time.

Everything! Being in the middle of the vineyard. The stars above - as if you’re the only 2 pple in the world. the place is small, but really really cozy. Kirk is an amazing host, as is Pepe. Loved the wine tasting, dinner was perfect. didn’t fire up the grill but the stove served well. oh and the hot tub… finally fulfilled my dream of soaking in a hot tub in the middle of a vineyard with a glass of Pinot in hand. oh and the perfect sunset and sunrise too.. everything was fuss free, and perfect. would highly recommend- either as a quick getaway from Christchurch or if ur looking to break up a long drive from Tekapo to Blenheim/Kaikoura - as was what we did!

My kids and I just wanted a change of scene, and to visit Motunau beach. The property was very beautiful, the whole converted barn being ours for the 2 days. Full of old curiosities-record player-with records (my 13 year old was enchanted), My 11year old facinated with the old weaponry😂 It was like a museum! The indoor spa was wonderful, and the outdoor pool was great. It’s a very unique building, and was very fun for the kids -and for me- to stay at. A large private lawn had my kids doing time trials, and races, after their swim. Wonderful to have them so active and away from devices. Like being transported back-to a better time.

For our travels in NZ, this accommodation option popped up and it was something that truly captured our imagination. The uniqueness, the location, the experience. We are so happy that we added the Waipara Wine area and this place to our itinerary! What an experience! We truly loved it - from arrival to departure. Through the very helpful arrival instructions, we found Russell's Cabin with ease. Privately located next to a winery, and within easy reach of Christchurch. It was stunningly situated high in the valley, overlooking an exceptional view and the stunning planting around the property. We loved each of the four little houses, comprising a living room, two bedrooms and a toilet/sink room. The outdoor shower and bathtub were exceptional and so liberating! Our sleep was very comfortable, and with the large cabin windows - it was like sleeping with a massive and changing oil painting at the end of the bed. The kitchen is basic and outside - but my husband loved it nonetheless and ensured a delicious dinner and breakfast. For breakfast, sumptuous bread, butter and homemade apricot jam were provided, which we supplemented by scrambled eggs and bacon that we had brought with us. It was so relaxing to enjoy these meals outside, ditto with the outdoor chairs for a pre-dinner drink or two. As the sun set, and the stars came out - the privacy combined with the nature made the whole evening so special. In all, such wonderful memories were created and we would highly recommend Russell's Cabin to all!

The Waipara has our favourite wines in NZ we love a couple nights there after doing some business in Christchurch. We always book a couple long lunch taste the chef experiences at Black Estate and Greystone then fit in a tasting at Pegasus bay and George’s Road and The Bone Line. You can cycle the wineries but we haven’t because we are always there in winter. Several of them have their own accommodation BnB and there are others in the area. The Amberley market on Saturday mornings is a good place to stock up on local goodies for self catering.

I think Waipara is a nice day trip, or good place to pass...

I think Waipara is a nice day trip, or good place to pass through and stop for lunch. We ate lunch at Greystone which was lovely. We stopped at Terrace Edge to taste, but there were no restaurants for dinner or little town to stop and stroll through/rent bikes unless you drove back down to Amberly, and very few places to stay. This was our last day, and we are not huge wine people, so we didn't take full advantage of everything the area had to offer. I think this is an up and coming area, so still room to grow. On the plus side, not at all crowded.

Great location in a vineyard in a winery.

Great location in a vineyard in a winery. It is quiet with not a lot around so it is best to order food for dinner or enjoy a lovely lunch at their restaurant and then maybe take your own cheese and crackers and one of their wines for an easy dinner.
