Food, Fado and Fun in Lisbon

Facing the Tagus River and built on seven hills, charming Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. It offers unique tram rides, intimate Fado performances, great dining venues and much more.

The city is famous for its districts: the Belém's famous monuments; the Alfama's labyrinthine streets, bars and small shops; and the trendy Alcântara's docks. Lisbon’s most popular nightlife and shopping venues are located in Bairro Alto, while the traditional heart of the city beats rhythmically in the Baixa.

Enjoy a walk in the greenery of Jardim Botânico, admire the architecture of the Jerónimos Monastery or explore Feira da Ladra flea market. The Chiado area serves the city's best traditional Portuguese food. No meal is complete without some famous pastéis de nata!

The food was great and on the healthy side the weather is neither warm nor cold this time of the year; lots of people out and about; so many choices to feed from. The locals go about their business no friendly gestures unless you stop asked and talked to them. Traffic in the capital can be overwhelming, the city sides street are very narrow, and hillies, get ready and be in shape using comfortable shoes if you going to stroll.

Beautiful city.

Beautiful city. Ours was a visit for a tech event - web summit & stayed few days more to enjoy the city and neighbouring places. We stayed for 6 days, 3 for the event & 3 days for pleasure. We used metro extensively through our stay & was very convenient. We used commis and tram as well. Spent a day sightseeing Sintra, Cascais & nearby areas. Would love to visit the city again & continue our exploration of places that we missed. We enjoyed Portuguese food. There were a few good Indian restaurants in Saldanha & Oriente that we visited as well. Entry into Lisbon was an ordeal & we had a 4 hour queue for visa stamping and entering the city. There were very old people in their 80's in the queue. One lady almost fainted. There is no option to get water or use toilet once you are in this queue. Would really appreciate if authorities take a note of this and make the entry less painful. Fortunately, we travelled to France and did not have to go through the exit immigration option at Lisbon. Overall a memorable visit to a great place

An easy city to move around with lots of options for transport to tourist attractions. Many great places to visit - a trip to Belem down the river really worth the visit. Only a short tram or train journey. Views from lookouts, especially around Castelo de Sao Jorge are great.

Before you book your accommodation make direct contact with with operators, make sure that you will be provided with what's on offer, and make sure they are based in Lisbon. If you cannot contact them, don't book. There are a lot of scammers about and Booking.com does not vet them, nor does it provide any support. While it claims to have 24 hour customer help lines and email, these contact details are not accessible via its website, which just tells you to contact the accommodation providers. My awful holiday was saved by some wonderful friendly staff at a local restaurant, O Rei Do Bacalhau, who let me spend my afternoons and evenings there, chilling out with a good book, a glass of wine and delicious Portuguese food. The Metro is cheap and very efficient and staff at the ticket office are helpful and friendly. You can get a top-up card for €20 which gives you at least 10 trips on the metro, trams and ferries. The architecture in the city centre is amazing, but beware of pickpockets as you wander around.

Lisbon is a City with something to suit everyone from the Party reveller to those who want a quiet break visiting Museums and old Churches .I'd recommend the Calouste Gulbenkian museum its fabulous. Lisbon has a Myriad of Bars and restaurants to suit all budgets .A great base to travel further afield on day trips, Sintra ,Caiscais etc. The Beautiful Tagus ,Beaches and Sea are on the doorstep and waiting for you to explore!

This is my second time coming to Lisbon.

This is my second time coming to Lisbon. There are many interesting places to visit while in Lisbon. I like Belem, Sintra... I have found that everything in Lisbon have become much more expensive compared with five years ago. Especially hotels and restaurants. If I compare Lisbon to Malaga nowadays, I think I can get better value in Malaga.

The best boutique hotel we have stayed in so far in Lisbon. Just perfect at a good price. This is the second of the Lisbon Heritage Collection hotels we have stayed in - the other, Janelas Verdes Inn, was almost as good. The location is perfect, great room, beautiful, understated décor, outstanding breakfast and wonderful staff. Fair parking price. Also decent food in the bar. I've run out of superlatives. We have tried maybe a dozen different hotels in Lisbon and this now goes to the top of our list.

Location of the hostel is great, especially if you have 3-4 days to spent in Lisbon. Breakfast is included and more than enough. (please do not expect a 5 star hotel breakfast). Hot water is always available in the showers. All staffs are kind, helpful and chatty. However I would like to thank you to Resul for his perfect hospitality. He definitely made my trip more than I expect. Thank you so much Resul, hope to see Lisbon and you again!

Everyone were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was exceptionally clean and full of character. It was very central and everyone was so helpful in suggesting recommendations for places to eat and where to visit and the best ways to travel or routes to walk. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying Lisbon. Breakfast was really good and the whole ethos of the boutique hotel was very welcoming.

Fantastic hotel. The staff is 5 stars, from the reception to the staff of the restaurant and bar. Breakfast is varied and has an egg menu, such as omelet and benedict. The room was comfortable and the bed fantastic. It has an indoor pool and spa. But the best part is the outdoor pool terrace with bar and a fantastic vertical garden. I recommend it and will come back.

Decor, space and location excellent. Liked the separate kitchen/dining/lounge area. A small cafe right next door was great at end of a day exploring Lisbon. Tram terminus and Square also had a great vibe and only 100m from Hotel. Of our 2 weeks in Spain and Portugal we rated our stay in Lisbon (Boutique Chiado Apartments) the best!
