The existing reviews stating how great this place is are not wrong! Chosen for this reason, we were not disappointed! Tikitams is, without doubt, five star. The staff do everything they can to welcome you and attend to your every need. The hotel is quite remote and certainly not for those looking for exciting nightlife. It's quiet and, most evenings, everyone was back in their rooms by 9pm. But if you're looking for quiet and calmness, where all you hear are the sounds of monkeys and bush babies, this is the place for you. The food is delicious and there is good variety. The rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. Someone comes in every evening to turn down the bed. Afternoon tea is served every day at 5pm. The bar is a lovely space and cocktails and beer reasonably priced. We were offered a complimentary face, neck and back massage at the spa which was a real treat and outstanding. The staff are amazing. Two examples: 1. We were going on an excursion that involved swimming. Knowing pool towels were provided at the hotel, we had not brought our own. Unsure what we could take for excursion, we planned to ask at reception prior to leaving. We got to reception, ready to depart, and there was the receptionist with towels, anticipating our need without our even asking. 2. We wanted to use the pool table just off the restaurant. It is outside. When we got there, there was a large flying insect sitting on the table top. I got pool cue to encourage it to fly away. From out of the shadows, a massai warrior (I kid you not; they are the security team for the hotel) appeared, removed said insect, and disappeared into the shadows again. Not sure if he continued to observe our bad pool-playing or not because he was undetectable again. All you hear from all who work at Tikitams is 'You're welcome!' and 'Makuna matata'. We had a fantastic four days! I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing get-away-from-it-all!

Staying here for a week really reminded me of the early 2000s travel vibes - travellers meeting around a beach bar, long lazy days playing Bao and chatting, rustic gentle bungalows, amazing personable staff helping you in every way possible, then lazing on nearby beaches or at the pool. I got lucky and picked the perfect place. Staff need a special mention - brothers Yasser and Yusuf make a great duo keeping everyone happy and helping with trip bookings, waitresses Jennifer and Ema and barmen Robert and Musa are always ready to serve you with a smile. I can't wait until I can come back! One week wasn't long enough... Oh I almost forgot the bush babies - they are tame and you can feed them every night if you want ❤️

Pongwe Beach Hotel is a perfect place to stay for a relaxing vacation. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beach and grounds are beautiful and well maintained . We love that it peaceful and quiet with no loud music or jet skis. We enjoyed the program put on by the hotel staff that included the guests.

It was amazing!!

It was amazing!! Beautiful place and unbelievable accommodation. Food great . The service from the staff was the best ever !!! Both of us fell in love with all of the people working there . Cannot recommend Pongwe Island enough ❤️

You need to take into consideration the feelings of your...

You need to take into consideration the feelings of your visitors....we do not like being targeted by people pestering us to buy from them every time we go to the beach. It really is a negative factor of visiting your wonderful island paradise....it spoiled it for us. Also this happened to us on other beaches in Zanzibar so not just a Pongwe problem....its endemic to Zanzibar.

Pongwe is an isolated beach, at low tide the sea is very far...

Pongwe is an isolated beach, at low tide the sea is very far away and, even at high tide, it is very shallow - you cannot swim. Kiwengwa beach, next door (10 minutes by car) is much better, more lively, with many shops and good hotels.

Set in a beautiful location right on the beach. A lovely relaxing place to stay. We were lucky enough to have a room with its own private swimming pool and would thoroughly recommend one of these rooms as it a lovely shaded semi private place to relax. The meals are lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful. A range of trips can be organised by the hotel. The beach is a wonderful place to walk and swim. The tide goes out a long way to provide fantastic walks on the sand and pools. It is about an hour from Stone town by taxi.

Nice décor, good food, lots of places to relax Staff were friendly Good housekeeping, especially the housekeeping manager, who personally returned to me a dress I had left at the hotel that they had dry cleaned as well for me. It was much appreciated :) Very good service
