The house was simple but well-designed, with modern and comfortable rooms. We found the tatami room very comfortable too. In the evenings we enjoyed drinks at their homely dining room. The hosts, Rika and Gareth, were extremely warm and friendly. It was like staying with friends. They served us two very delicious Japanese breakfasts when we requested for them.

Very beautiful, traditional hotel with very friendly staff. Big cozy rooms, with an amazing hot tub. An awesome experience, and being located in Gion, it truly feels like diving into traditional Japanese culture.
Well located in the centre of Kyoto, Hotel Muso provides 3-star accommodation close to Gion Shijo Station and Kyoto Shigaku Kaikan Conference Hall.
The location was good, it is near several convenience shops open 24/7 as well as a laundry station. Bus stops and train station are quite near as well within few walking minutes. Being so accessable and yet still in a quiet area. The room was clean and comfortable, a bit small but manageable having toilet and shower seperate which was a great bonus when one needs to use the toilet and the other showers at the same time. The hotel manager was amazing, friendly and ready to help with whatever necessity we had. He went the extra mile with us and surely made our stay better. He arranged delivery of our luggage to the next hotel whilst we where out exploring Kyoto, left us our breakfast in the room as we had to leave early... and so many more instances.

OMG! This is the best stay ever! Definitely beyond our expectations. It was in a lovely quiet countryside, with one modern style cabin facing the rice field and mountains, and one old Japanese style house facing the zen garden, and you can access both! The wooden hot tub was amazing ! Must try! If you plan a longer stay like 10 days you will absolutely fall in love with the slow pace of life and never get bored! You can relax in the backyard, have a little nap on the hammock! The owner has a dog, some chicken in the yard and many vegetables and herbs! I think the family with children will also enjoy the stay. Last but not least, the owner is an expert in cooking, especially meat. If you are a meat lover, game meat lover, you will find this place as your heaven. Me and my husband stayed there for 10 days, never having the same food twice. The owner also made our meals based on our likes and dislikes (my husband could eat his favourite Meringato, many times! and me, had a lot of sushi, sashimi and local seafood!). Overall, a memorable countryside culinary stay. Highly recommended.
