My wife was captivated by the scenes of riding a motorcycle and cruising through the town, and in the end, suddenly I found myself in Matera with my wife. Maria (if I got the name wrong, I am sorry!! ) who introduced us to the accommodation and the entire Matera area is a perfect 11 out of 10! We had a delightful time exploring the Matera area in the evening. Now, this is a story that only applies to Koreans (and I want to clarify that I'm referring to South Korea, not North Korea ). When we started craving Korean food, we heard about a restaurant called "Chimac" here, so we decided to visit. This experience was also very refreshing. If anyone is curious about Korean food, be sure to visit this place.

The location was perfect, the room was great and the staff was very helpful. Matera is a stunning place to visit, but as with all ancient towns, it can be a challenge to navigate. The Belvedere II avoids that issue as it is perfectly located on the way into the town, this means no hauling suitcases through the labyrinth. There is also a great, secure, covered parking lot very close by.

Ridola Hotel was designed in 1872 by Leonardo Ridola, a famous local architect. It still has original vaults and pavements, and its façade features a solar clock from the 1900s. A lovely little hotel, beautifully appointed with excellent, attentive staff. It has private parking but is only a 10 minute walk from the sights in Matera. It also has a small swimming pool.

The In Pietra is set in a converted monastery from the 13th century. Today it offers a large hall, a reading room and a wine cellar. This boutique hotel was exceptional. We rented the room with tub and sauna and it was perfect. Room was even larger than expected and the extras of bathrobe, Epson salts and slippers was a great touch. Breakfast was super, even eggs and bacon for those who like a hot breakfast along with all the usual continental and European pastries and focaccia. The music piped into our room was ultra relaxing too …only wish we’d arrived earlier or first day to enjoy it all more.

We parked our car outside the ZTL and took the bus, which took us right to the Sassi centre, from the bus stop the hotel is just a minute away. Tasty breakfast with salty and sweet options.

Air-conditioned rooms all feature a flat-screen satellite TV, a seating area and fully fitted private bathroom with a shower. L'Arturo B&B was centrally located in the picturesque old town of Matera with wonderful views over the sassi. Arturo and Monica were wonderful hosts - incredibily kind and helpful and went out of their way to assist us with taxis and recommendations for restaurants. Monica warned us beforehand not to bring big suitcases as there are many stairs down to the guest house. They kindly helped us with our luggage. The decoration of the room was quirky and modern and contrasted with the beautiful and well renovated old building Our room was very spacious with a nice terrace with a table and chairs. Restaurants and shops were all within walking distance from the guest house. The breakfast on the terrace with a view was scrumptious with fresh pastries, bread, cheeses, tomatoes,fruit, cereals, jogurt,milk ,coffee, water, and juice - so much to choose from.
