Right in the center of Kyoto, also in the traditional neighbourhood so you can easily walk out of the hotel exploring various Japanese culture and food. Kyoto Station Area, Kyoto
Opened in April 2013 with brand new facilities, Piece Hostel Kyoto is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station. It features a spacious and comfortable lounge, a tatami (woven-straw) terrace and a wall-size map with latest event information around Kyoto. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property, while portable WiFi devices are available for guests to use during their stay for an additional fee. The staff was great, they helped us deliver the phone my father forgot in the bullet train to the hostel, which at the Lost and Found office told us is going to be very difficult for an accomodation to do. The place is very clean, showers are separated in sort of mini rooms so there is a lot of privacy. There are dyson hair dryers which was unexpected for a 2 star hostel. The beds were comfortable as well. Location is walking distance from the main station and was very practical.
Kinosaki Onsen, Toyooka
Facing the central shopping street of the Kinosaki Onsen hot spring area, Morizuya offers authentic Japanese-style accommodation, hot spring baths and Japanese dining. Guests can wear colourful yukata robes at the property. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. Staying at Morizuya was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. This cozy, family-run ryokan radiates warmth and hospitality. Manager Hachisuka and his family do everything they can to make you feel at home, and our stay truly exceeded expectations. The ryokan is charming and traditional. We stayed in a spacious, comfortable tatami room with beautiful décor and a view of a peaceful garden. The room included a private toilet and sink, while bathing is done in their private onsen (yes, private — no need to bathe with others if that makes you uncomfortable). Morizuya provides yukata for men and women, sandals, bags, towels, and an onsen pass for the town’s seven public baths. Women can also choose a kimono for going out around town and shopping, while men can (and should!) relax in their yukata for this same purpose. I especially want to highlight how Manager Hachisuka truly went above and beyond. He’s not only an excellent photographer — taking beautiful photos of my fiancée and me among the cherry blossoms and guiding us to great photo spots — but also incredibly kind and attentive. He personally helped us with our schedule and drove us to the station early in the morning to ensure we caught our train on time. That level of care is something we’ll never forget. If you’re unsure where to stay, I strongly recommend Morizuya. We left with beautiful and unforgettable memories of this warm and authentic experience in Kinosaki. A few quick tips about the bath: There are two onsen inside the inn. From 7 AM to 3 PM, they’re public (men/women separated). From 3 PM to 11 PM they become private — no reservation needed. If the door’s unlocked, it’s available. Go in, lock the door behind you and enjoy. You’re welcome to bathe with your family or partner. Be sure to shower and clean yourself before entering the bath. Walking around town in your yukata(or kimono) is part of the charm, so don’t be shy — it’s all part of the experience.
Koyasan
A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi. Guests are free to attend Buddhist morning services, the Goma fire ritual and meditation. Staying at Eko-in was an exceptional and unforgettable experience. I highly recommend booking the Okunoin cemetery night tour—it was both atmospheric and deeply moving. The meals are fully vegetarian and beautifully presented. If you're not a fan of tofu, some of the dinner dishes might not be to your taste—but that, too, is part of the cultural and spiritual experience. I was initially anxious about sleeping on a traditional futon, but it turned out to be surprisingly comfortable and added to the overall sense of authenticity. A truly unique stay.

Lovely interior design. Spacious room
Truly an exceptional property, in every way. Friendly, helpful and courteous staff. Luxury ambience and amenities. The property has lots of character and lovely design elements. Surely one of the best boutique hotels I have stayed in, ever in my life! Felt sad when it was time to check out 😊.
Beyond my expectations, it’s a really nice set, great design hotel. Very delicate, private, full of details… the space is also great. We just love it.
This property was stunning- the views from the room are all of the water, the onsen was also a real highlight. The interior design was also really gorgeous if you’re into 80s art deco opulence.
Lovely boutique 5 star hotel with cool history, beautiful design, over-the-top amenities, and wonderful staff. Kid friendly. I would come to Kyoto again and stay here :)
Best of the 5 hotels we’ve stayed at on our two week trip to Japan. Beautiful boutique hotel. Lovely stylish room with great bathroom and walk in shower. Had king bed as well and more and well designed space in room. Super guest lounge with coffee, juices and snacks and in the evening beer and wine too. Very friendly staff. Quiet location but walking distance to all key points of central city and lots of little local restaurants and bars if you explore.
This hotel was so stunning. Beautifully appointed, sleek stylish interiors, beautifully crafted breakfast menu. Every little detail was so thought out. The staff were incredibly helpful and spoke wonderful English. The coffee at the coffee shop was some of the best we had in the country The location and facilities around the hotel were amazing, from the tranquil gardens, to the craft beer spot and designer boutiques. We can't wait to come stay again!
My second time staying with Piece during my visit to Kyoto. This time round, we tried a different branch. From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for a treat. The stays truly exceeded my expectations in terms of its location, cleanliness, and stunning interior design. Their common area was stylish and inviting, despite post-covid the place is very well-maintained and the entire property is very tidy. Will definitely visit again if we're visiting Kyoto.
A lovely boutique hotel - well designed with friendly staff and great facilities for guests, including a communal kitchen and lounge. Our Japanese-style standard room was very roomy and stylish - we loved the tatami and the seperate bathroom off the shoji-screened entrance. The Japanese breakfast included in the very reasonable room rate was delicious.
