Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

What a great sanctuary of a place and wonderful people! Nia, the Manager did all she could to welcome us and even stayed up late when we had unavoidable delays making us arrive well past check in. But the whole team are fantastic being attentive and responsive to our needs and requests with smiles at the ready. The inclusion of your choice of breakfast is fantastic and it was the nicest breakfast and cleanest accommodation we had in our month on Sumatra We stayed for 5 nights but would have happily stayed longer. We had to move one night as they were full and stayed at Carolina Cottages but couldn’t wait to get back to a much more welcoming and flexible vibe at Hub Tata If you want peaceful lakeside spot and a lovely vibe with helpful good people and a delicious breakfast this is your place! Mr Bloom is very nice guy, who helped us out a lot. Gave us recommendations. Rooms are big , clean and there’s hot water. Dropped us of at the local bus stop and made sure we took the right bus.

If you’re visiting TukTuk then you MUST stay here! The staff were so friendly and gave us recommendations for the island. We rented a scooter off them also which was super easy. One morning they evening brought breakfast down to our room for us so we could enjoy the view of the lake, it was lovely! Any questions we had about the local area or transportation back to Medan they were very helpful 😊 would recommend this place to anybody, perfect location also! Little bonus, our room had a bed in the annex area and it was so nice to chill there for sunset!!

Very nice guesthouse with a good restaurant beneath it, make sure to check it out! Rooms are spacious, clean and have a balcony. The son of the owners, Bun, was really nice and helpfull. The day we left he brought us to the port. We will definitely be back when we are in Tuktuk!
