Ella La Bella mannor was built in1452 (note that this is 40 years BEFORE Columbus dicovered America!), by the well-off Italian Courtier and given as a dowry to his La Bella at the occasion of her marriage to the Local nobleman of Ragusa, nowadays Dubrovnik. As was the custom of those day, the Noblemen had their own Chappel next to the house, and it’s still there. The house itself is still alive and well, although renovated over the centuries by 36 different owners. You will enjoy the ethereal zen-like peace and silence while picking the lemons, tangerines, or oranges right from your bedroom window, and enjoying the early morning sunrise or the sunsets lights overlooking the garden and the city walls. The Mannor House had, and still has, the most central and privileged location within walking distance from Rector’s Palace, The Cathedral, The Old Port Authorites, The Customs House and main street Stradun, the heart of business and trade. And yet, it is tucked in in safely behind thick City walls, while having an emergency exit through nearby South City Gate with access to to the sea. The descendants of the first owners are still around after 8 centuries of proliferating Dubrovnik trade, culture, local tradition and diplomacy. Due to inevitable linguistic changes , they are now called Gverovic: de vero = fiancee’s best man, >>gvero >> gvero-vich (of gvero descent). Ella La Bella is located behind Cathedral in Gradićeva street. One of the quiet streets of old town. Far away from noise makes heaven for light sleepers. Property has a view of beautiful garden owned by church, and view of city walls of Dubrovnik. You will enjoy the light of the place.
