Umhlanga Holiday Rentals (Pty) Ltd was started in 2010 and registered as a Private Company in 2016 following the successful growth of our brand and compliance with local tax law requirements. We currently market and manage around 30 niche properties; the majority are beachfront apartments and employ 15 staff members. Christian and Karyn Leclezio own and passionately operate this business.

The name "Umhlanga" means "place of reeds" in the Zulu language. Umhlanga Rocks is a prime holiday resort town and a trendy tourist destination. In 1869, Umhlanga's first beach cottage, the Oyster Lodge (on the site of the original Oyster Box Hotel which was owned by Christian's family) and built overlooking the sea and where they served tea and scones to passers-by in the true spirit of Umhlanga hospitality. The beach cottage had a reflective roof which acted as a beacon by passing ship captains to navigate safely around Umhlanga's rocky headland. In 1954 Umhlanga's red and white lighthouse was built to warn ships away from the dangers of the rocks. Umhlanga's first hotel, The Umhlanga Rocks Hotel (on the site of the PEARLS), was built in the 1920s. The original Oyster Box Hotel was built on the site next to the lighthouse in 1947. Umhlanga Rocks bloomed, and other hotels soon followed. Umhlanga became the most sought after area for local's to go on holiday as well as to set up residence.
