As you will notice from the many reviews, the panoramic ocean views over Walker Bay and the mountains of the Overberg are what makes Whale Huys so spectacular. We are fortunate to be located directly on the coast, with just the fynbos and a hiking trail separating us from the ocean. The North West exposure gives us stunning sunsets year round. Every bedroom, living space and even the gym and kitchen have direct ocean views with balcony or terrace access. We strive for understated luxury in harmony with nature. The thatched roof keeps the villa cool during the summer. The solar geysers and solar power and back-up mean we not only tread lightly on the environment, but also keep the lights on during power outages. The gourmet kitchen is a delight for your inner chef. The deep leather sofas in the living area with slow-combustion fireplace, and the original artworks from local South African artists all provide a warm and welcoming feeling. We've included amenities that travelers look for without creating a cluttered or overly busy environment. We first came to South Africa in the late 1990s and fell n love with this amazingly beautiful country and its people. We bought Whale Huys in 2014 with the long-term plan to retire there. In the meantime, we enjoy sharing our little piece of paradise with both locals and guests from abroad who are looking for a quiet escape in nature, to relax, refresh and recharge.
