The location is fantastic—beautiful and surrounded by nature. The facilities are excellent, and everything is spotlessly clean. Both breakfast and dinner are outstanding; the food is absolutely incredible! The hotel owner is very friendly and always ready to help, even suggesting activities for us to do the next day. There’s also easy access to many hikes, with a convenient bus that takes you right to the start of the mountain trails. After some good hike it is always great to bath in the onsen provided by the hotel!

A very cosy hotel. The Japanese style room is clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast has plenty of food. The hot spring is very nice. The staffs are very friendly. Very close to Matsumoto Castle. As a bonus, there is a light show in the Castle, which is amazing.

The completely non-smoking Ryokan Matsukaze is just 10-minute walk or a 5-minute drive from JR Matsumoto Train Station. The ryokan offers simply furnished Japanese rooms with futon beds.

For sure recommend staying here, really good value for money, walking distance from everything you’d want to see / easy to get to and from the bus or train station. Being able to cycle around was a highlight for us in Matsumoto! Comfy futon bed and room with clean facilities. Though it’s a shared space it’s insanely quiet around. Onsen was beautiful and a good way to unwind after a long travel to Matsumoto.
