The pictures don't do it justice. We were at the two bedroom house and the view, the furnishing and the decorations were breathtaking! Also there's 2.5 baths instead of 2 as advertised. The location is perfect - about 10 minute walk to the restaurants. However what really made our stay so memorable was the service team. They felt like family and were super responsive to every request on WhatsApp. From restaurant and onsen suggestions to helping us book tables. They sent their own car in a snow storm to rescue us from cortina when all taxis cancelled on us. Words can't describe our appreciation and thank you for making our annual family trip so perfect.

Diner was great (had pork curry) Atmosphere was amazing, by far the most beautiful hostel we have been in, located in the hills with a few on the forests and hills on the Nakasendo trail. Did a local sake tasting of 5 different flavours for only 500¥ and she also explained a few things about sake. All and all amazing experience.

After a day of hiking, skiing or cycling, guests can relax in the shared lounge area. We loved the incredibly delicious food (dinner and breakfast) and the great hospitality of the owner and his wife. Our room was pretty large and had all amenities you need, except an ensuite bathroom. The shared bathroom is clean, large and comfortable with showers and an onsen! If you're lucky you have the bathroom for yourself. Although we had a rental car we stayed nearby the pension to avoid the load of tourists on e.g. the Magome- Tsumago trail. Kaida is a pretty village from where you can hike. The waterfalls trail loop on the way to mount Ontake is beautiful and tranquil as is the whole area around mount Ontake. It's easy to spend 4 days at Kaoru!

Staff was excellent. Onsen was spectacular.

It was cute/quaint and had character! Excellent location, shuttle stops for all the mountains were a five min walk or less, as were the ski rental shop and many restaurants. Loved hanging out in the common room. And most of all we LOVED Taka, he was the best. Such an amazing host. Definitely would stay here again if I came back to Hakuba and definitely would recommend to a friend.

This is probably one of the best ryokan in japan! High value! The onsen is very spectacular. It will stay in my heart forever. For sure I will come back.
