I especially like the personal touch of this small hotel. The lady behind the front desk is super friendly, helpfull and interested. She gave us very good suggestions for restaurants in the neighbourhood. The room, even though it was on the street side, was very quiet.

The Vatican

The world’s smallest state is also one of its most attraction-packed spots. As the centre of the Catholic Church, Vatican City is chock-full of awe-inspiring religious architecture and artistic treasures. Must-sees include the imposing St Peter’s Basilica – so vast that the Statue of Liberty could fit comfortably under its dome – and the mesmerising frescoes of the Sistine Chapel.

Such a beautiful place, filled with religious history and life. I only wish people visiting treated the Vatican with respect and were quiet. Unfortunately it is treated as a museum and not a church.

After paying $80 for two time-specific tickets, there would have been at least a thousand cued up to enter with thousands already in the complex. It was a "cattle drive" with attendant rushing the mob along. I am a former museum director and this was my worst museum experience. BUT it is the only way to see the Sistine Chapel - also wall-to-wall people.

Reserve tickets especially for the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, be at least 1. hours before your reserved time and have comfortable walking shoes. Do not visit the Basilica on Wednesday and Sunday mornings ( closed )before at least 1pm - unless you want to see the Pope from the balcony at noon. Be ready for very long queues.

If you want to see the Sistine Chapel , just be prepared that you're going to spend four times as much time getting there parading through the Vatican museum , which has all sorts of stuff that I didn't necessarily associate with the Vatican.

You pay hefty amount to get treated like cattle.

You pay hefty amount to get treated like cattle. You can barely walk inside the museum as there are 1000s of people in the same room as you. In case of an emergency, you will probably be injured, or even worse. Its only about the Vatican making money.

The apartment is beautiful, just like in the photos—spacious, comfortable, and equipped with everything you need for your stay. Communication with the host is excellent; they are always available. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the Vatican, which is a huge advantage, and other attractions are also nearby. We definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant stay in Rome.

You cannot beat this location! Staying next to the Vatican is a big bonus in november, the whole area is filled with amazing places to eat, a big part of the city is still in the walking distance and there is public transport that brings you to the hotel. Nicolo, the host, is the reason you will like Rome, and your stay. Prompt feedback, hospitality, tips, recommendations on anything! Thank you, Nicolo!

The location is truly excellent. This was my second time visiting Rome and my second stay at this hotel. The room was extremely clean. Even though I am 8 months pregnant, I was able to walk comfortably to the Vatican. In addition, there are many shops and different restaurant options on the main street just above the hotel. Thanks to the nearby bus stops, it was also very easy to reach important landmarks such as the Colosseum and the Pantheon.

A lovely apartment with three separate bedrooms, perfectly located in Rome. Everything is within easy reach, whether you prefer walking or taking the metro. The Vatican is just a 5‑minute stroll away. The rooms were comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and the internet connection was reliable. Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay.

Don't be deceive by by this hotel's 3-star rating. To me, it's more of a 4 stars boutique hotel. The jacuzzi in the room (very nice room - Queen deluxe), varied and high-quality breakfast (a bit of everything), perfect location, close to restaurants, supermarkets, a few minutes from the airport shuttle stop (Vatican), a short walk to the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo. Friendly and attentive staff, gorgeous roof. Perfect stay. It will certainly be my choice on my next visit to Rome.

On a quiet street in Trestevere, bus stop nearby the river, easy to walk to the Vatican and even central Rome attractions. Few cafes and restaurants within walking distance too. The apartment is in good condition, 2 bedrooms, high ceilings, A/C and central heating, big wardrobe, kitchen with everything in, on 3rd floor, no lift.

check out the hotels for your ideal location, you get very good value for money from smaller hotels/ bed and breakfast/ guest houses etc. Use the hop on hop off buses, buy tickets to the main tourist attractions in advance, unless you like to wait in line a lot! Vatican is manic, I went in March and it was starting to get busy, I can imagine it would be very hot and uncomfortable in the height of the season.

If you take the time to go through the streets north of the Vatican you can find many small stores where the locals shop. As well as the popular brands and designer labels these streets are full of market stalls with lots of bargains and lovely small deli's and cafes that sell many wonderful local goodies. Great restaurants in this area too, well worth spending a few hours of the day finding a treasure or two.

Get a 48-hour pass on one of the "hop on, hop off"...

Get a 48-hour pass on one of the "hop on, hop off" sightseeing bus services. Many of them also offer "skip the line" tickets for certain sights. These tickets are worth every cent. There are tourists waiting in long lines everywhere, which will waste a lot of your time and energy. Rome is an intense tourist destination with much to see. Plan well, do research and be prepared to spend extra on special services. You will need at least 5 days to a week to truly see most of the major landmarks. Just the Vatican Museum offers so much that you could easily spend 3 days inside and still not truly see most of it.

As it's Rome there will always be tourists everywhere but DO NOT go with any tour group guaranteeing to skip lines, the queues are never as bad as they look. We were told a "5 hour queue for Vatican and the Sistine chapel" but if we joined a tour we can go straight in...for a €50 fee. We opted out and queued and were in and out of the Vatican, Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel within 2.5 hours all for a quarter of the price (student and EU citizen discounts). The same goes for the colosseum. Go at your own pace and avoid the scammers. The hotel had basic tourist maps which were perfect and we easily found our way. But we did find there were always less people between 12-1 as they had gone to find food by then.

The Colisseum and the Vatican are probably the main attractions, but there are dozens of monuments, museums, gallaries, fountains and churches that all offer a piece of ancient or modern history. Even the roads and walls and buildings seem to tell a story about one of the most preserved ancient cities in the world.
