The hosts are wonderful people. Made me feel very welcome and at home whilst I stayed. They were friendly and kind, helped me and showed me new things. I felt apart of the family whilst I was there. Very well cared for. The facilities were comfortable and clean. I enjoyed the traditional sleeping arrangements. The food was exceptional, I wish I could eat there all day every day. The location was easy to find and was very close to the ski lift. I will absolutely stay again.

We had the most incredible experience at Folklore Pension. We absolutely adored the owners, Kaoru-san and Shinri-san. Kaouru was so kind and would often offer to drive us to the station if we needed and pick us up. She told us about her favorite aspects of the area and took us to a really cute nature reserve/lake near the house where we learned about all the cool wildlife in the area and got to see salamanders!! They built their bed and breakfast themselves 40 years ago and it shows as it is so beautifully decorated with details of their loved ones and travels, you can really feel how much love and heart has been put into their home. Almost every night we paid 2500 yen each for dinner and as Shinri-san, the husband, is an incredible chef the meals were always WAY above and beyond. Absolutely incredible quality ingredients, amazing portions, gorgeous presentation, different, authentic and imaginative meals every single night. From hand-made sushi platters to Udon-like soups and steak and incredible pork and fish dishes Shinri-san's talent and generosity never ceased to amaze us. The dining room was also decorated in such a sweet way with many instruments and beautiful, cozy details. They always play the beatles vinyl records as we ate and had an impressive supply of different types of japanese beverages to try if we wanted like sake, japanese wine, or nagano apple juice. They also have breakfast which Kauru-san made us each morning. Always incredible omelets with miso soup and other wonderful dishes and salad. Often different kinds of meats and always the option of rice or toast with our meals. Another incredible detail that we loved was the little homemade stone onsen in the bathroom, always filled with relaxing hot water after a long day. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and also significantly bigger than anything we had experienced prior in japan. There's a beautiful park just a short walk away next to a river.

Amazing property with even more amazing staff. We stayed for two night during our honeymoon and couldn’t be happier with the experience. It was an authentic yet luxurious Ryokan. Our room was beautifully decorated, spotless and it even had its own onsen. The food was exceptional and the staff was very well trained and extremely friendly. Highly recommended this hotel and would love to go back on day.

    Absolutelu gorgeous.

    Absolutelu gorgeous. Buy the combined ticket, which also includes the Scriptorium (where you can become wise and rich, so great investment), the Main Gate (wonderful view of the Temple city), and the Museum. When you go down to the dark tunnel, stay calm and keep touching the wall with your right hand at hip height until you touch twice the sacred key which will bring you illumination.

    Even though I'm not a religious person, this sacred temple...

    Even though I'm not a religious person, this sacred temple made myself feel purified. Don't miss the short climb up the gate. Small steep stairs but worth it. Walk around the garden and other small temples on your way back to the station. Stop for snacks such as buckwheat noodles and oyaki dumplings.

    Good location, large car park, laundry and ice machine. We walked to Zenkoji Temple from the hotel. One of the dryers wasn't drying. They refunded my money and put an out of order sign on it and then checked that the next machine worked. Free drinks in the fridge a nice touch. The hotel has lots of restaurants close by as well as a Family Mart and a Lawsons.

    Best location we stayed at in a 2 week holiday in Japan. The other hotels we used were all conventional ones and we wanted to stay in at least on Ryokan and chose this one. The location is perfect, really close to Zenkoji Temple which is the most historic area in Nagano, with lots of really nice shops to explore. The room was perfect and we really enjoyed the traditional Japanese breakfast

    Good sized room by Japanese standards, comfortable bed and great location right at the station. There are lots of delicious quick food options and a bar in the food court below the hotel. The Zenkoji Temple is within walking distance or a short bus ride away. Loved being able to access the station so easily to catch the Shinkansen Bullet train

    This is a clean and comfortable place to stay right near Nagano city train station . The eating options in the area are good and it is a pleasant walk to the Zenkoji temple from the hotel . I only stayed for one night but after over two weeks of straying in traditional Japanese guesthouses staying one night in a western style hotel with a Japanese breakfast included was highly satisfactory .

    Fantastic location, close to Nagano Station and shopping areas. A pleasant walk to Zenkoji temple. Quite a large room for Japanese standards, suitable size for a family of 4. Well appointed, full kitchen, decent sized fridge, microwave etc. Great shower and water pressure. A very quiet room with minimal road noise heard. A quiet complex of 5 apartments only.. Netflix provided.

    Extremely warm and helpful staff! We felt so welcomed by their generosity. This hostel is so clean and cute with a great atmosphere. Staying here was a perfect base of operations for our excursions to Jigukodani park and Zenkoji temple. We got great insider tips for sightseeing and dining (amazing soba and basashi recommendations!). It felt like we got an authentic taste of Japan!
