Ugh. If you're into Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks and Burger King on every corner you've found your place. Otherwise, honestly, skip it. There's a lot of history here, obviously, but it was lost in the crowds and the clutter. Sad.

On Dam Square, the Royal Palace exterior looks grotty but inside it was amazing. Pay an entry and be well pleased with what you get to see. The audio device was too soft for me but just follow the signs and look for yourself.

The location was a little off the main drag but a great walk up to the Dam square where you can interact with the walking tours. The apartment is very well equipped the host was excellent and great at explaining how all the items like the coffee machine worked. Very organised and clean. The host was very helpful if we needed any information.

Everything was perfect. We didn’t want to stay near dam square because of the crowd but wanted to be in central, and this hotel was a perfect choice. Its near Vondelpark and Museum area and room has a perfect calm street view. Also rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Thanks for everything!

Room was comfortable - Bed size bigger then queen - almost king size. Pillows, mattresses were nice. Breakfast was very nice and wholesome. Staff was very courteous and friendly. Location wise not very very central - say about 13-15 mins walk to dam square or central station. Good thing that there were elevators in the hotel. Views from the room were none.

The hotel is in a quiet location, the room was large and although they did not have air conditioning fans were provided. Having a fridge was very handy. In the reception area, you can refill your water bottle and make hot drinks. The hotel is very close to Dam Square, shops and cabals. The tramline is across the road, making it quick and easy to visit museums, and other areas of the city.

Wonderful hotel. Like a small separate town in the city of Amsterdam. The location is wonderful, you go out and in front of you is the heart of Amsterdam, canals, cafes, Dam square. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They try very hard to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We have only unforgettable impressions. Thank you very much. We will definitely come back again.

Visit The Nine Streets 'De Negen Straatjes' for unique boutiques with the odd Abercrombie shop. I love the shoes here, try United Nude-pop up shops scattered around right now. I love De Bijenkorf (The Beehive), the department store by Dam Square for its one step ahead, soon to come homewares trends.

If you take a detour from the main shopping strip leading to Dam Square, there are a number of smaller shops for the more particular shopper. My favourite was what looked like a small musical instrument shop, but turned out to be huge. There was also a retro computer game shop that was a little expensive but had an amazing array of consoles and games.

Stay off the beaten track and away from places like Dam Square and the Red Light District. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants close to the canals. Look for where the local people go to eat and take recommendations from your hotel. Always worth checking out the restaurants in the Internet before you go and always try to book
