Albanian people are very friendly, trustworthy and polite. (when paying for things I offered an assortment of money and they just took what was needed , I never felt that I had been overcharged). The mountains around are beautiful and travel can be arranged via the local tourist office if you don't have a car. If you have just go and explore its wonderful countryside. Main roads are safe and maybe a little in need of repairs and travel into the mountains needs care but don't be put off. Local mini busses can take you to many larger towns and to Tirana. The town becomes alive in the evenings when folks promenade the closed off main street and restaurant's and bars fill with locals and families. Very beautiful and picturesque, people are really friendly and welcoming, food was to my liking, There is variety of cuisines available, Albanian, Arab, Turkish which we tried and other cuisine is available.
