FAQs about hotels in Val Gardena
Dream Valley of the Dolomites
Situated between 1,250 and 1,550 metres above sea level, Val Gardena is part of the South Tyrol region of Italy. The Gardena River runs alongside it, surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites. Populated by a Latin-speaking majority, its fabric mixes Austrian and Italian traditions.
Sasso Lungo Mountain (3,181 metres) is probably one of the most iconic symbols of the valley, while the Puez-Odle Natural Park also includes some of the highest peaks of the valley. A large part of Val Gardena hotels are in Selva, precisely because the town is located between the Sasso Lungo and the Park. Ortisei and Santa Cristina are the other 2 towns in the valley.
Val Gardena is also celebrated for the quality of its handcraftsmanship, particularly for the woodcarvers specialised in religious statuary. Nonetheless, it counts with beautiful refuges and restaurants located in the mountains, offering delicious meals accompanied with breath-taking views.
But it’s during winter that the valley offers its most renowned side: Val Gardena’s ski facilities are some of the best of Europe. The very fast Saslong World Cup track or the Sella Ronda are legendary.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 348 reviewsThe breakfast spread was impressive! Even though we were there for three nights, we never got sick of the breakfast spread. The salad and cheese bar at dinner was also great, although the dinner courses we had on the first night had room for improvement. The location was perfect! It was right by the main promenade in Ortisei, and a short walk to the Seceda and Alpe di siusi cable cars. The spa facilities were beautiful. Thoroughly enjoyed the hydrafacial and sports massage that we booked after a tiring day of hiking. I can see myself returning for a longer stay to enjoy the facilities. There are sufficient facilities to keep you occupied even if you stayed at the hotel throughout the day.Guest review byGenevieveSingapore
- From US$399.99 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 128 reviewsFormidable stay at a formidable hotel. Price more than well worth for what's offered. For a tired backpacker it was lovely to make use of the spa. Attentive staff and friendly athmosphere. The optional five course-dinner was a great deal. Free mountain guide for daytrips was unexpected but much appreciated, especially for the solo traveller. Great location next to the bus stop, with only 30 minutes to the train in Ponte Gardena, so it works brilliant for train travellers. And with all the buses running through the valley (free fare card!) it is a great base camp for exploring the entire area. This was really a top notch hotel experience, thank you!Guest review byAnnaSweden
- From US$431.85 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 270 reviewsThis was one of our best stays ever. We were a young people and the youngest people around but we felt very at home. Everything is top notch and the hotel is like a family. We got to know every single person there, including the staff, the owners and all the guests They organise hikes everyday, trails that you wouldn’t find yourself. Also breakfast hikes, and even did a bbq for all the guests. Some of the best food we had were on these organised eventsGuest review byShashHong Kong
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 241 reviewsThis really is a boutique hotel. The spa/wellness area is so nice. Plenty of free parking. Rooms are big and beds comfortable. They only offered half-board when we were there. The breakfast buffet had a great selection. Dinner was different a-la-carte-menu for each of our two evenings with several selections for starter, main course and dessert. Staff was both attentive and helpful, f.ex. about hiking and driving routes.Guest review byFinnurIceland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 353 reviewsDelightful small hotel very conveniently located right in the center of Ortisei (especially good for those traveling by public transport as the main bus stop was a 3-minute walk from the hotel). Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. My room overlooked the main street, but was surprisingly not noisy at all. Very nice breakfast buffet available. Good value for money.Guest review byMollySaudi Arabia

This is further to my previous review on Garni Rives.
This is further to my previous review on Garni Rives. I gave the hotel a review that reflects my honest opinion, mainly about the manager/host of the hotel. Obviously my review was not received with warmth from the hotel manager. He messaged me immediately via Whatsapp and blamed me being not polite to him, I have no idea where does this come from. I believe he has broken the golden rule of being in me the hospitality industry, if he cannot accept honest reviews, how can he improve to thrive on? The hotel itself is OK and the only problem I have is the steep climb (not the hotel's fault) and mainly the manager's manner.Guest review byAnthonyAustralia - 10.0

For those who may not know, Val Gardena is comprised of three distinct areas; Selva, Ortisei and Santa Cristina. My advice on where to stay is to try and figure out which mountain ranges you plan on hitting. That said, all three locations are very close together, and you can access them all within ten minute on the same bus. Personally, I would stick to Selva or Ortisei simply because of their access to vastly different mountain areas. Santa Cristina is snuggled between the two and didn't have as much to offer, IMO.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Because of the two gondolas accessible in town, we were able to explore both sides and experience a variety of terrain, none extremely challenging which worked for our various fitness levels. The views are stupendous and the convenience of the huts along the trails for lunch, a drink or even a break from the rain were fantastic. We didn't need to worry about packing snacks or lunches, and instead enjoyed reasonably priced, delicious meals along our hikes.Guest review byCarmenUnited States - 10.0

Great base near many cable cars to get up the hills and enjoy the walking and views. Free buses between all the villages is a great help and they run regularly. We stayed 5 nights and then went over to just south of Cortina for a further 5 nights which was a really good balance to explore different areas of the Dolimites with less driving.Guest review byFrederiqueUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house!
We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house! Great location – very close to the cable cars that take you to Seceda and Monte Pana in the beautiful Dolomites. The area is peaceful and scenic, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The hosts were very kind, welcomed us with gifts, and gave us great tips on what to see and do nearby. The house had everything we needed: brand-new beds, super comfortable mattresses, and the host kindly provided lower pillows upon request. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We stayed on the ground floor – although the weather was rainy, it was always warm inside thanks to the heating. A perfect place for both active holidays and peaceful rest – highly recommended!Guest review byAntanasLithuania - 10.0

A lovely town in the valley with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants but also gave easy access up into the mountains via cable car/funicular. Also easy to get the bus to St Christina and Selva for other cables cars and walks. The Val Gardena mountains are simply stunning with plenty of great walking accessible from OrteseiGuest review byNicholasUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites.
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites. Hotels and Apartments are plentiful and in every price level. You can choose from so many hikes (all different levels) you can fill 3 weeks. Depending what other locations are on your itinerary, 3 days allow you to see the highlights and get a sense of the beauty of the Dolomites. Yet, it's easy to fill a week. Summer like winter.Guest review byMichaelGermany - 10.0

Santa Cristina Val Gardena is an absolute gem in the Dolomites. The town perfectly balances peaceful Alpine charm with great access to outdoor adventures. It's smaller and quieter than nearby Ortisei or Selva, which made it feel more authentic and relaxing, but it still offers everything you need — cozy cafes, excellent restaurants, and beautiful walking paths right from the center.Guest review byPaweł SadowskiPoland
