Everything was perfect! Located right across the station and a few minutes walk from the ferry port. Perfect accommodation for visits to the art islands especially if you don’t want to stay in the island itself. Building looks very new and was spotless. Very comfortable. Decent breakfast for the price (including tasty glasses of colorful juice). Free pass to the beautiful onsen next door (got outdoor onsen overlooking the ocean).

I stayed in Japan for a month, and my one night stay here is an absolute stand out moment in the trip. From arriving at the island and sending off our luggage with the shuttle to being dropped off at the ferry by the shuttle on our last day. Every interaction with the team was friendly and professional. I think it's absolutely worth spending a little extra to get the open air bath with a view, soaking in the views while soaking in the tub was extraordinary.

In the heart of Kurashiki old town which is really nice at night to go for a walk and enjoy the view. 10min by walking from Kurashiki station and there is a big supermarket next to the station too. Equipped with kitchen appliances so we can cook and enjoy the meal! There is a washing machine with dryer that we can do laundry! The staff is really helpful and friendly! They offered all the details for check in on website, which is really nice too!

From the shuttle at the ferry dock, reception, orientation to the Spa, cleanliness of the room and facilities, and welcoming attitudes of the staff to the actual experience of dining, lounging, walking around the facilities and use of the Onsen, we were delighted with the property. It isn’t a typical tourist destination from my understanding but the gardens by night are absolutely stunning. The casual is also beautiful and I’m sad to have missed the pottery class. Food and bars also exceptional - everybody is particularly friendly, and perhaps less used to accommodating tourists. Coffee: Empire coffee roasters. Friendly service and outstanding coffee. Food: Hidaya Yanigamachi. Grill your own delicious meat. Drink: ichigin. Super friendly and will involve you in conversations even if you don’t speak Japanese.

It does get busy during the day when lots of tourists come over by ferry for the day however we hired bikes and managed to stay clear of the crowds for the most part. The Island becomes very quite in the evening which is perfect, I would advise that you book a restaurant as lots of the island closes around 5-6pm so anything that is open later gets booked up. We were very lucky to just get the last free table on two occasions. Also the deer wandering around especially in the dusk and evening before al the ferries drop off are enchanting, however they are not like the deer in Nara park and there are lots of signs that remind people not to feed or bother the deer, not everyone follows these rules which is disappointing.

It’s a little off the main tourist route, which is why it’s worth a visit. In November the weather was great. It was easy to visit the castle and grounds and a bus trip to Tomonoura was great way to spend the day. A little fishing port famous for being in films and again not too busy. In Fukuyama a visit to the Clock and auto museum is like entering an Aladdin’s cave of wonders. It’s full of the past and not just cars and clocks. Lots of small owner run restaurants as well.

A very quiet city in the remote Sanin region, from exploring the lores of the region to the food throughout the city, it was a great trip. The only note is that the shops here close earlier so you do have to set off earlier compared to usual. Other spots nearby that could be explored were Matsue and Yonago.
