The best railway /city hotel I have stayed in for some time. Very elegant with a Japanese bath house in addition to all that you would expect from a 5* hotel. Location is lovely even though it's not the most convenient spot but it's located in a very quiet neighbourhood. It's located in the uphill so scenery is really nice. The apartment is beautifully furnished and it's very tidy, clean and comfortable. The bath tub and sauna are amazing! We spent quite a long time there HAHA as the hot tub has a special function to keep pumping hot water in without overflowing! They definitely make the stay very special and memorable. The bedding is comfortable and soft. They have all the amenities ready for you to use and there are guides everywhere to assist you to turn on the electronics. They have slippers for both indoor and outdoor as well. The interior is lovely and of Japanese colour. It's a very special stay for us.

Utmost welcoming hosts. It felt more like a homestay that a hostel. Also in terms of cleanliness it was exceptional. I have been to many different types of accommodation during the past two years in Japan where the standard of cleanliness is already very high but this place can keep it up with any five star hotel! The room is very clean and the bed is so comfortable Especially the breakfast is great. The staff are nice, and you cant believe that the modern facilities can apply to the traditional architecture. Stefano is very friendly and accommodating. He made us fresh bread and jam. It’s really good! Room is very clean and well equipped with towels, toiletries even toothbrushes. I also like that there is plenty of hangers and space to hang clothes. Space for luggage too. Fridge, kettle and coffee machine available for use. Free parking too! Convenient to visit Mt Aso and Takachiho Gorge from here.

I love here very much! Very recommended for those who come to Hitoyoshi for Natsume Yuujincho, or any other purpose. I stayed here with a fun time. They were very friendly to me, and the space was clean and nice, I had a few days high quality sleep there. Will be sure to come back again next time I visit Hitoyoshi again.

    Let me start with an advise; when you come to Japan go to Kyushu and stay in this hotel. My wife and I enjoy our last evening here (we stayed 5 nights) and this hotel is excellent. The location, the room (we stayed in the suite), the food, but most of all the excellent staff. The staff make you feel welcome, the service is warm and personal, yet professional at the same time. They know who you are from the moment you arrive. One of the best performances we experienced and we travel a lot. My wife has a rare allergy and they provided special meals for here. Exceptional. The hotel is also very clean and is recently renovated. The onsen in the room and the public one are comfortabel / beautiful. The location is perfect to visit Mount Aso, Kumamoto, Beppu, Oita, Takachiho gorge et cetera. Can’t recommend this place enough!

    Excellent breakfast and dinners, far beyond our expectations. Shabu shabu, sashimi, sushi galore etc amongst a wide variety of food to suit most taste for buffet dinner, plus complimentary non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, wine, beer, sake, japanese whisky and brandy at dinner plus in the lounge after dinner. Quiet and serene surroundings despite near to a road, opposite Lawson and near to gas station. V convenient for driving to the tourist sites in Mt Aso. Room is a bit worn out but clean and big for Japanese standards. No wonder it was crowded. Great value for money.

    I stayed 1 night with large family group. We like the dinner buffet the most. Especially the free flow beer and foot onsen is a plus of this stay. One of our family room with open air bath got 2 separated toilet. Rooms are comfortable and the breakfast buffet is amazing too!

    Getting around is easiest with a car, but note that it's a small mountain town so roads can be narrow--a smaller rental car would be a good choice for visiting tourists. There's not a lot of convenience shops but local produce is glorious and cheap. You can do many hiking/walking daytrips based here into the Kuju mountains and Aso area. We visited in spring, so roads were clear but I'm not sure how conditions would be in winter.

    The owners were exceptionally lovely, I arrived when it was a bit dark, but she quickly responded to my message about my arrival and helped me get to the property. Also their generosity and kindness were amazing despite me being a little lost in my Japanese understanding. Stay was comfortable with a great view of the mountains greeting you as you woke up. I would definitely recommend staying here, probably arriving a little before the sun sets as the small streets can be a little confusing if you take the wrong route.

    Amakusa is an amazing place with amazingly friendly locals. Never crowded with tourists, peaceful, and relaxing. Lots to do and see as this island has beautiful mountains and beaches. The dolphin watch is an experience like no other dolphin encounter. The drive through the mountain roads offers spectacular views of peeks covered in lush forests. Amakusa is a must for anyone visiting Japan!

    Kumamoto city - not much to see.

    Kumamoto city - not much to see. Aso area - nicer - with views, countryside and waterfalls. Accessible only by car so suggest self drive. Treat places like US where you need to drive everywhere to get stuffs. I don't put photos because need to convert to jpg.

    This small town was very tranquil and relaxing with many hot spring baths available to experience and enjoy. Easy to walk around and visit the many small shops in the town. The Okyakuya Inn, which I stayed at, was perfect with a traditional tatami room and futons and both dinner and breakfast course meals were delicious serving dishes made with local ingredients. The staff were also great and friendly.

    Other than the castle area, there isn't much to see in Kumamoto itself. But if you enjoy nature, the city is a pretty good jumping off point for visiting areas such as the Aso caldera and the Takachiho Gorge area.

    Great views. Great trip. Only disappointment is the blue "lake" in Nakadake Crater. All the pictures show the "lake" while to my understanding it was destroyed during the 2016 earthquake. It was what drawn my attention to this location to begin with, so it was disappointing not seeing it. All these pictures should be replaced with what currently is there, not what used to be there.
