- From US$437.44 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 159 reviewsLet me start with an advise; when you come to Japan go to Kyushu and stay in this hotel. My wife and I enjoy our last evening here (we stayed 5 nights) and this hotel is excellent. The location, the room (we stayed in the suite), the food, but most of all the excellent staff. The staff make you feel welcome, the service is warm and personal, yet professional at the same time. They know who you are from the moment you arrive. One of the best performances we experienced and we travel a lot. My wife has a rare allergy and they provided special meals for here. Exceptional. The hotel is also very clean and is recently renovated. The onsen in the room and the public one are comfortabel / beautiful. The location is perfect to visit Mount Aso, Kumamoto, Beppu, Oita, Takachiho gorge et cetera. Can’t recommend this place enough!Guest review byPeterNetherlands
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.9Good - What previous guests thought, 96 reviewsExcellent breakfast and dinners, far beyond our expectations. Shabu shabu, sashimi, sushi galore etc amongst a wide variety of food to suit most taste for buffet dinner, plus complimentary non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks, wine, beer, sake, japanese whisky and brandy at dinner plus in the lounge after dinner. Quiet and serene surroundings despite near to a road, opposite Lawson and near to gas station. V convenient for driving to the tourist sites in Mt Aso. Room is a bit worn out but clean and big for Japanese standards. No wonder it was crowded. Great value for money.Guest review byShu-LeongHong Kong
- From US$220.53 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.4Good - What previous guests thought, 692 reviewsAYCE dinner and breakfast buffets - including 9 types of unlimited sake and shochu! Quality and offerings of food were great. The place also has 2 onsens with mountain / caldera views which were so peaceful in the morning! And another one with an outdoor space. Finally, I loved the Showa era retro vibes.Guest review byAnelaUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 523 reviewsI stayed 1 night with large family group. We like the dinner buffet the most. Especially the free flow beer and foot onsen is a plus of this stay. One of our family room with open air bath got 2 separated toilet. Rooms are comfortable and the breakfast buffet is amazing too!Guest review byJessie Qi EnMalaysia

Yuhoen Fruit Farm to enjoy fruit picking and unlimited serving of fruits picked within an hour. There were Hosui pears, Kyoho and Fuji Minori grapes. Great experience! Kumamoto castle is a must visit as well as to savour horse sashimi.Guest review byEricSingapore - 10.0

Loved Mt Aso and area. It is gorgeous and the visit to the crater was scary but exciting. We enjoyed driving around the beautiful mountains and loved the scenery. The highlight of our trip to Kyushu so farGuest review byJaninaAustralia - 8.0

Getting around is easiest with a car, but note that it's a small mountain town so roads can be narrow--a smaller rental car would be a good choice for visiting tourists. There's not a lot of convenience shops but local produce is glorious and cheap. You can do many hiking/walking daytrips based here into the Kuju mountains and Aso area. We visited in spring, so roads were clear but I'm not sure how conditions would be in winter.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

The owners were exceptionally lovely, I arrived when it was a bit dark, but she quickly responded to my message about my arrival and helped me get to the property. Also their generosity and kindness were amazing despite me being a little lost in my Japanese understanding. Stay was comfortable with a great view of the mountains greeting you as you woke up. I would definitely recommend staying here, probably arriving a little before the sun sets as the small streets can be a little confusing if you take the wrong route.Guest review byAndrewAustralia - 10.0
Amakusa is an amazing place with amazingly friendly locals.
Amakusa is an amazing place with amazingly friendly locals. Never crowded with tourists, peaceful, and relaxing. Lots to do and see as this island has beautiful mountains and beaches. The dolphin watch is an experience like no other dolphin encounter. The drive through the mountain roads offers spectacular views of peeks covered in lush forests. Amakusa is a must for anyone visiting Japan!Guest review byDanielUnited States - 8.0
Kumamoto city - not much to see.
Kumamoto city - not much to see. Aso area - nicer - with views, countryside and waterfalls. Accessible only by car so suggest self drive. Treat places like US where you need to drive everywhere to get stuffs. I don't put photos because need to convert to jpg.Guest review byArundataTaiwan - 10.0

The visit to Mount Aso and walking there is a great experience and the bus from Aso railway station up to the volcano makes the visit easy. A bit too many people at the crater but fortunately less on th longer hike.Guest review byVladimírCzech Republic - 10.0

This small town was very tranquil and relaxing with many hot spring baths available to experience and enjoy. Easy to walk around and visit the many small shops in the town. The Okyakuya Inn, which I stayed at, was perfect with a traditional tatami room and futons and both dinner and breakfast course meals were delicious serving dishes made with local ingredients. The staff were also great and friendly.Guest review byTomokoCanada - 6.0

Other than the castle area, there isn't much to see in Kumamoto itself. But if you enjoy nature, the city is a pretty good jumping off point for visiting areas such as the Aso caldera and the Takachiho Gorge area.Guest review byTomJapan - 10.0
Great views. Great trip.
Great views. Great trip. Only disappointment is the blue "lake" in Nakadake Crater. All the pictures show the "lake" while to my understanding it was destroyed during the 2016 earthquake. It was what drawn my attention to this location to begin with, so it was disappointing not seeing it. All these pictures should be replaced with what currently is there, not what used to be there.Guest review byAnonymousUnited States
