They also upgraded us to one with a pool and put out some decorations on behalf of it being our honeymoon! We had a contact/butler we could request things via WhatsApp and he was very accommodating and friendly. On that note, all the staff were brilliant, housekeeping called in the evenings also to check if we needed anything - water, towels, etc. and provided turndown service. The grounds of the hotel are amazing, with trails all the way around the property that can be walked, jogged or cycled (there are complimentary bikes!). There was also fantastic wildlife to be seen on the grounds! Monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, lizards, peacocks, etc.! There is a nice bar with a pool table and the cocktails, etc. are nice. The food was amazing. We also used the spa for a couples Balinese massage - it was amazing and very professional from offering drinks at welcome and at the end, etc. Just an amazing stay, pricey but well worth it.Guest review byPadraigIreland

Upon arrival, the staff warmly welcomed us, our names were mentioned, and we were upgraded. The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible (I appreciate this!), and the restaurant Manager deserves special thanks. We had a great evening here, which obviously also added up to the experience. In the evening we did a village trekking which was guided by Ayesha, who works as an Officer in the Front Office. She has such a warm personality and a highly motivated guide (recommendable!). I truly enjoyed walking the two of us through the village. Wild Grass is absolutely stunning and so peaceful. The villas are very modern but sympathetic to the surroundings and so spacious. AC was very efficient. And the bathroom!!! Loved it, especially the outdoor shower. Since our last visit some of the villas now have pools overlooking the lake. I'm so glad we decided to go with one of these rooms. There is so much more to do in this area than I realised.
There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.Guest review byHazelIreland - 10.0

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A visit to the Bawa hotel, Heritance Kandalama, is well worth it as an insight into the brilliant architectural mind of Geoffrey Bawa.Guest review byImanAustralia - 10.0

A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are around an hours drive but Dambulla is much well-connected and less touristy.Guest review byMalayIndia - 8.0

Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time.
