- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 160 reviewsEverything about this whole experience was phenomenal. We had no expectations but what we saw and did was beyond our comprehension. We are very grateful to have the opportunity that Quartermaine’s provides. We got 4 game drives, unexpectedly 3 of these was just us with the guides Liam and David as the other 4 guests were out on walking trail. These guides are extremely knowledgeable, great people and sense of humour. Went out of their way to make it all memorable. Our game drives were fantastic, with 2 very close encounters with the Elephant Herd and later Lion immediately beside or around us. Saw all the other animals at close range too. The animals and scenery were unforgettable, we appreciated stopping at the middens of early human camps. Full explanations of all the animals and plants When we had a bit of rain and wind, we got rain ponchos, blankets, even hot water bottles. The camp itself was very 1920s authentic with twists of luxury. The Hot tubs under South Afrikan skies - sensational. Loved all the food cooked on the fires, the home made bread & food, delicious. Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available at all times, even on drives with amazing views. The Lions roaring at night and the Elephant outside our tent at night added extra thrill, always felt safe though. We don’t have the words to describe the experience or to say thank you enough. I understand now why people keep returning - we also hope too. Not enough room for all the great photos. THANK YOU 🙏 from 2 very grateful New Zealanders xGuest review byBridgetNew Zealand
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.9Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 114 reviewsHillsnek exceeded our expectations in every way and gave us an absolutely unforgettable experience. The staff ensured we had a truly special stay that was shared with the other small number of guests. The tents are beautiful and expertly combine luxury with a unique safari feel, overlooking the wilderness and expanse of Amakhala, from the large deck out the front back and side of the tent. All drinks and meals are included and two game drives are included per day (early morning and late afternoon). The drives and guides were amazing, we had so many exciting encounters with the animals, including lion, cheetah, elephant, rhino, antelopes, giraffe and many more. Would recommend at least a three night stay here to make the most of everything this wonderful place has to offer.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 319 reviewsWe had a wonderful experience in Woodbury Lodge. We loved our guide Roxy who is extremely knowledgeable and an outstanding ranger. She was able to show us lions, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, elephants, all sorts of antilope, monkeys and warthogs. The only animal we didn’t see was a cheetah as they are very rare to spot but Roxy made a huge effort to find it. She had great knowledge on birds and the reserve itself. Her driving skills are excellent! The accommodation itself is wonderful and very clean. Each room has their own terrace overlooking the waterhole where the animals come to drink. Absolutely magical to watch!Guest review byHeineIreland

The food was delicious and they catered for gluten free requirements very well. The drives were also great! Our guide Des was extremely knowledgeable and fun and we saw all the big fives, incredible scenery and learned about so much about all the animals! Overall this is a great reserve, we had a very special time and would highly recommend!Guest review byCorinnaItaly
- From US$805.74 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 99 reviewsArriving at Leeuwenbosch is like stepping back to a time of gracious living. The house was built in 1908 and has large rooms tastefully decorated and full of antiques and family portraits. Frint of house Kerry welcomed us and gave a guided tour of the property. Her husband Steve was also on hand to make sure we were comfortable. Our guide Ouboet was exceptionally knowledgeable, not only in fauna and flora, but also in the area’s history. All the staff were smiling and courteous.Guest review byAnneSouth Africa
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 467 reviewsThe entire experience was phenominal. The amazing staff, the welcome, the foof, the luxury rented, and of course, the 2 game drives were incredible, with us seeing so many animals, despite the rain. We were mostly dry on the trucks, and there was a lovely fire to warm us up on our return. A fantastic family experience that we will never forget. Thanks to our fantastic guide, Roxy!Guest review byClareKirbyNew Zealand

The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful.
The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. the room was large and when you came back after the second safari they had turned the lights on. folded down the beds and put the heating on. That is a really great touch from the staff. The Park Rangers were very good. We had Jessie and he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. He really did his best to find the animals we all wanted to see and made it a special experience.Guest review byHuwUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We did an afternoon Giraffe walk through Bellevue Lodge and it was amazing - we were taken on a safari vehicle onto a game reserve and from there had to find the grazing giraffe. Once we spotted them, we drove close by and then got out of the vehicle to walk close (but not too close) to the giraffe to watch them eat their dinner. It was a lovely experience, and our guide Stephen was knowledgeable and friendly, answering all our questions. We stayed at the Bellevue Lodge for 1 night, it was a lovely small property with friendly staff.Guest review bySusanSwitzerland - 10.0
Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature.
Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature. Super bedroom and in the morning all kind of animals where in front of your room. Also the Akmala Game reserve tour is highly recommendable because we saw so many wild animals (lions, rhino's, cheetahs, secretary bird,...) The dinner in the lodge was superb.Guest review byBENNYSlovenia - 10.0

This was a new listing , and we were the first guests, LUCKY US!! The facilities offered are too many to mention. An updated kitchen with everything that opens and closes and more. Filter water on tap, a wine fridge, every spice that you can imagine. If you have forgotten anything at home, no stress they have it. A beautiful, clean, large family home. The beds are comfortable, shower pressure is great, wifi, dstv and views from every bedroom. Our host Larraine was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. This gem is a true home from homeGuest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Amakhala Game Reserve is a haven for wild animals and a brilliant place for a safari. Many of the animals used to roam the land 100 years ago before the land was used for farming. In the early 2000's the land was returned to its natural habitat and the animals reintroduced, with the aim of conservation and breeding of endangered species. As it is in a malaria-free area, it is the perfect location for a safari for people who get bitten by mozzies! There were only a few jeeps out on drives at any time, so you rarely come across other people. There are several lodges in the reserve to choose as your base (we stayed at Safari Lodge, which was brilliant).Guest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10.0
