This was one of the finest ryokans I’ve stayed at in Japan. The outdoor onsen was beautifully designed, making for a perfect winter soak. The room was exceptionally spacious compared to others in the area, with a well-placed private bathroom that offered both convenience and privacy. Additionally, parking was hassle-free, making it a great choice for those traveling by car.

Yudanaka Train Station is a 10-minute drive away and free Wi-Fi is available in the shared lounge. The owner is amazing! He is so friendly and great at explaining everything, including a map to the 9 public bath houses in town and restaurant recommendations. He made a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast for us. The private bath outside is beautiful - I wish we could've stayed longer. If we're ever back in the area we'll try to stay with him first.

The bath and sauna was exceptional, as was the host Kazuo-san (and the rest of the staff)! We also really liked the bar attached to the hotel - Openbook Yama. It is a branch of a bar in Golden Gai - really cool addition to the property!

We had a great stay at Shoraiso for our honeymoon in December. Service is unparalleled and the staff are doing above and beyond to make us feel like home without being intrusive. We love the elephant decor of the room and the beautifully landscaped garden, and the private onsen is definitely the highlight of our trip. Breakfast and dinner are included and the food is just exceptional (very tasty with fresh local ingredient and creative presentation). The location is quite convenient - 45min train from Nagano to Yudanaka station and hotel is just a few min drive away (the hotel can arrange pick up). Monkey park is quite close (around 15min taxi away). Overall we couldn’t recommend this hotel more!

In the wellness area you will find a hot tub. The area is popular for skiing. This was one of the best ski holidays we have been on. The hotel was beautiful - amazing décor, comfortable room, great private onsen and shared spaces, most delicious food (English breakfast and mostly Japanese dinner), helpful staff. The location is really on the slopes of Norikura (which is linked to Cortina), and an easy walk to the shuttle bus for access to the rest of the Hakuba resorts. Hotel provides pick up and drop off from local train/bus stations, so we really didn't need to rent a car. We opted for the half board option and just really relaxed and enjoyed skiing and chilling in the hotel.
